(The) Deadliest Warrior

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:16 am

Does anyone here happen to watch, or has watched, the show? I know the show isn't 100% accurate (but what show is) and they leave out details that could alter their end result. But, all in all, I find the show to be quite interesting and can't wait for season #3.

I think I found out about it on this forum when it first came out, it wasn't entirely accurate, but it was a pretty fun show to watch

I don't really like it that much. It′s not the art that matters but the master who deploys it. To say they give on warrior and edge over the other is quite an understatement in my mind.

Not that I don't like watching some combat scenes, the assumptions of who would beat who just make me cringe a little. The show would be a lot better if it just showed the style of each warrior but didn't try to put them up against each other.

This show is awesome. Nothing like some pop corn and epic fights.

Wait, is this in terms of strategic generalship or one on one combat?

The people on that show (the representatives of X group of warriors) are like children arguing. "Well your arrow wouldn't have hit me because we would be too fast!" "We have the best aim though, you can't dodge our arrow!" "But you can't shoot the arrow if you have a sword in your chest!"

Also, the "super advanced program" used to determine who would win is clearly Microsoft Excel if you look at it, with a bunch of random numbers put in.

It's like one of those conversations you have with your friends: who would win, Batman or Spiderman? Alfred or Pepper Potts? Nothing too serious, and can be pretty funny. Similar to the shows that do "Top 10 Tanks" or such - show off some equipment, throw in testimonies by a few experts, and you have a TV show. C'mon, who wouldn't want a show about pirates vs. ninjas, the age-old argument?

I believe it's a combo. When they pitted person against person, in season #1 and #2, it was army v. army THEN general v. general.

yeah the host and many of the experts are annoying as hell, too much macho "mine is better because your stupid" "nuh uh" "is too" for me, however season 3 is getting a new host, the same guy that hosts future weapons, so it will actually be non cringe indusing to hear the host talk, the fights are pretty good though

as for how they do fights, sometimes it will be single warrior against single warrior, mostly for your clasic sword and arrow combat, but once they get into firearms it starts getting into squad V squad, ususally 5-8 man teams.

though i would [censored] love to see a 10 man team of spartans agains a 10 man team of french knights, would be prety epic.

The only one that made me cringe was in season #2 (I believe?). Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) vs. Sun Tzu. Vlad ACTUALLY fought on the field of battle, Sun Tzu did not (I think?).

 I cringed when I thought they would actually have Pol Pot vs Saddam Hussein in a fist fight

But do they do this based on different scenarios? because William and Joan both had different tactics, and chose different battles.

I love this show, except for the end when they pit the warriors against each other. I like seeing all the different weapons and types of ways they were used and how damaging they really are, that stuff is interesting. The hypothetical matchups, not so much.

They do take tactics and power/precision into account, however not as much as I (and others) would like.

Well I must admit, I have seen a few of the episodes. Too few to know if I'd like to see all of their episodes, but enough to say that it's not terrible. I enjoy mythbusters a lot more though.

I found that Mythbusters has gone downhill since they got a big budget.

I watched it for a bit, it just ended up annoying me. I mean pirate vs knight and Nazis vs vietcong were good episodes but that was about it. I stopped watching after the Alexander The Great episode. Aside them using terrible testing techniques, them filling everything with fake blood for no reason and screaming all the time just annoyed me.

The way they do their experiments bothers me. They test similar weapons in such different ways that the results are skewed. Test one grenade inside a washing machine, another in a flimsy plexi box. I wonder which one will make bigger BANG?

Yeah this is the thing. That and if its not deadly, its not worth their time. It was an episode with SWAT or something similar spoony from TGWTG.com said they threw a stinger grenade in the room full of dummies and the guys were totally unimpressed. Now if those were real people they would be lying on the ground completely incapacited but hey if its not deadly, point goes to the other side.

And the weapon it went up against was a pretty much immobile wall of tasers sort of thing.

Yeah, I think it's a good concept, but these people don't take particular things into account

That's not always true for Deadliest Warrior though. In the Mafia v. Yakuza episode the Yakuza flashbang grenade outdid the Mafia's molotov cocktail. The show (kinda sorta) is all over the place, but still an enjoyable watch in my opinion. Though...in the end...the Mafia defeated the Yakuza.
