Personally I didn't find it useful, as I've already been doing all these things; but I can see how people might not have figured out the infinite sprint and jumping off mountains thing.

Does "Become Ethereal" allow to to, for example, walk through doors/gates?

I haven't unlocked it because I didn't think it'd be useful for my current build. Hell, I have 4 shouts I've found and haven't unlocked because I don't think they'll help me.

It does not allow you to pass through solid object, only to avoid damage
