The difficulties of being an interior decorator.

1.6 made it even worse because it appears to have flipped gravity on objects... try picking up a bottle by the top in 1.6.... it will flip upside down as if the top of the bottle is heavier than the bottom.
Its another bug that was reported in the pc beta and not addressed.

Yes I cant stand this, I thought they said tit was going to be easier than in Oblivion. One thing I used to love doing in Oblivion is make stacks of books and lay things out on my tables like editions of the Black Horse Courier and such, but now it seems a lot harder to do and half the time the stuff doesn't stay where I want it.
on a positive note: centurion dynamo cores look marvelous. All my homes have at least one on display.
I love these things and I collect everyone I come across and put them all in my home iin Markarth. They're like trophies :trophy:

One of my favorite decorations, them and the "bug jars". http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1430.jpg That's my Thieves house. All decorated awhile ago. Jar's have always been a big pain to get upright, but other than the odd thing here or their ( Dwemer helmets never stay where I put them for instance) I haven't had to much problems decorating, BUT I also haven't done any decorating in the past two weeks. Been just very busy and don't want to take the time for it right now.
I don't have pic's ( yet ) but my Battlemage collects the Dragon Priest mask's, but put's them in the "cases", He also has Necklesses in cases. I figured why put just weapons in them, they have other thing's in them in the game.

You can decorate, you just have to jump through some hoops to make it work correctly.

What I don't get is that my minor decorations to this point - and they have been minor - have all been staying put except for one book. I have four books next to my bed in Riften - two on each nightstand - but one book on the left nightstand keeps sliding to the right. If never falls off, but it never stays exactly where I want it. The other books don't seem to move at all. It's annoying.

Which book? Some objects have a larger collision box than you think they would. Is there anything next to it that is a static?

Atlas of Dragons, I think? The one that lists the dragons by name and how/when they died. My character takes their dragonborn duties seriously and I wanted to have four dragon themed books by my bed, for late night studies. I originally wanted to have those dragon themed books on the table, next to my dragon burial map, but I ended up throwing that away because it kept glitching through tables.

Ha! Probably more length than frustration. When I get in a groove and want a little downtime from adventuring, I really do have fun setting stuff up. I have no idea, totalwise, how long it took, but it wasn't anything too crazy.

Have you tried putting them on top of one another in a stack?

Were you able to accomplish this with the "drop items from inventory, then leave/re-enter house" trick?

Well, then that makes the whole thing even more frustrating. Why would they not fix this if it was reported in the beta. I'm sure Bethesda see's this as an issue that 99% of their customers would never notice. And they're right. But for that 1% of us, this svcks bad.

NO WAY you can set those skooma bottles like that now after the 1.6 patch. If you can, man I'm impressed. Also, I had Black Briar Reserve and Black Briar mead on another character's Honeyside home lined up on shelves two rows deep with the labels facing outward. I doubt I can pull that off after 1.6.

100% agree. It took me ~10 minutes to get a bow to lean against a corner correctly without falling over. I would love if we could use the examine interface (how you can rotate, change its degrees and such) as our primary way of picking things up. If I want to make a blade go vertical I have to smack it around a door frame for 5 minutes then slowly move it to where I want. If I dont move slow enough then it messes up and we're forced to repeat the process..

Yup. I find that is the only way to do it.

I think they were more focused on 1.6 for xbox as it relates to Dawnguard, and were in a rush to get it out.

No, definitely not, I agree. That was like 1.4 that I set that up. I might give it a try, but it would be nigh impossible.

I wonder if deleting the update, placing items and then putting the update back on would make anything unstable in the game. I don't imagine how it could but you never know.

This is a very, very strange occurrence. Its not really a bug, but why on earth would how we grab bottles change? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

It's not just bottles. Everything acts upside down, gravity wise. I agree, it doesn't make too much sense.

Really? I guess I haven't noticed. If its everything then there's a very, very small chance that Bethesda might actually fix this in 1.7. Its strange though because some items don't seem to have any "gravity" at all. Take ignots, for example. They are just suspended in mid-air, perfectly still. I wish all items were like this.

I agree the system currently isn't very good the only useful thing ive done with it is make a pyramid out of the plates, platters, and goblets in dragons reach that ended up getting knocked over by the jarl's brat. >.<

If only they could implement some sort of Halo Forge rotation once you grab an item. You wouldn't be able to draw a weapon, but would you really need to fight while holding a roasted ox leg?

[speaking of which i want the old display cases back, i could put things other than weapons in them and i could have a few different items in them at once]

You can still do that. I put my collection of Divines' amulets in one of the cases in Hjerim. Just don't "activate" the case after you open the lid, and drag and drop like you normally would.

This is just plain stupid. They really need to fix this. Again, I'm dumbfounded as to why and what changed something like this. I'm going delete my updates to decorate then put it back on.

I'd love to decorate my Skyrim homes. Problem is, that means letting items fall off of where they were and then using the workaround just to put a bowl on a table. How about the whole, "things decide to not stay in place after you leave house" problem gets fixed first.

I agree! I really wish thing's would actually stay where you put them. I made a sweet bowling alley in my house in Markarth using wine bottles as pins and a dwemer centurion as the ball! But EVERY TIME I left and came back home the bottles would be scattered all over the floor! I got so fed up with it I just left it a mess :yuck:

Hi just joined the forum, but yeah i tried to stack about 30 bottles of honningbrew mead onto the dinner table in whiterun, 15 minutes it took me! Then when i leave the house and come back later what do i see? 30 freakin honningbrew mead bottles on the floor after i painstakingly spent all that time individually placing them neatly on my table. Neadless to say, i have now learnt how to keep items to stay in place thanks to the advice from the good people on this forum.
