"The Dovahkiin" character build [Video]

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:51 am

After completing the main story-line in Skyrim I've been putting together a few unusual or challenging character builds to play through the game again in different styles.

I'm particularly happy with my latest play-through which was inspired by the Skyrim trailers and in particular the iconic Dovahkiin. Essentially it comes down to acquiring the gear that the character is seen to be wearing in the trailers and finding a way of making it viable at higher levels.

After putting a considerable amount of time into the build, I put together a video guide for players wanting to try something similar.

I hope you enjoy it:

Interesting build my man but I find it hard to depends on shout as a primary mean of offense or defense since it got pretty long delay. Also, I was wondering if this build actually specialize at using any skill at all? I know isn't any magic involve and smithing is probably a must but other than that, is vague on as of what is your character specialize in. And I got a question, I been thinking about an illusion-assassin style char but I'm not sure which skills is a must and how to balance out my ability to use magic and warrior related skills at the same time, I would like your opinion on it! thanks for sharing this new build with me bra

Nice character and good video. I've been trying to do this as well with my nord character but I've given in to the temptations of some Archery and Restoration :P
(but at the same time I'm not powerlevelling smithing so it plays a bit more naturally)

Ok I'll break down my reply for each part of that question.

The main offence and defence are the character's sword and shield. The shouts are used to improve your odds in various situations, not as a sole method of attack. Example: Your character is being attacked by a number of melee type enemies an archer who you cannot reach immediately. You could use Ice Form to remove the threat of the archer until after you've dealt with his buddies.

The build specializes in the one-handed and block skills.

For your illusion/assassin build, the most important skills would be sneak, illusion and either archery or one-handed weapons depending on your play-style. The real damage would come from your daggers or bow, and the illusion spells would be used before and during combat to ensure that your enemies are too distracted to attack your character.

Hopefully that helps.

That sounds very sensible. Archery and Restoration will make your character more balanced. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Dovahkiin build: default Male Nord with 1 Handed sword and shield, wears Iron Helmet, Studded cuirass, Iron gauntlets, Iron boots, amulet of Talos. Focus on the one handed and block trees, put some points in light armor and heavy armor. can also use dual wield of sword and dagger.

You ruined the surprise!

Well now the cat is out of the bag, I'll well add that Smithing is incredibly useful to improve the armour rating of the pretty standard gear that you'll be wearing, and activating The Lord Stone will add another layer of defence which proves invaluable. Picking up the blessing from the Shrine of Talos whenever possible is also a good idea to reduce the cooldown after your shouts.

Speaking of shouts, it's a good idea to start the main quest up sooner rather than later to ensure you have some ranged capabilities.
