So, in the end, what will be the CANON story for the Dragonb

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:33 pm

Just like we discovered in Skyrim that the CoC was an Imperial or Breton and ended up being Sheogorath, we will probably discover in the next TES game who the Dragonborn really is.

But before that happens (in maybe 5 years from now?) we might speculate what will be considered the CANON path that the Dragonborn did take.

Personally, I do think the Dragonborn is supposed to be the new "Emperor" of Tamriel, you know being Dragonborn all that. I think he does side with the Empire, not by loyalty but because since he's the big deal he has a bigger vision than just making Skyrim an independent country.

I do also think that he's no saint and will have probably committed all the horrible things related with the Daedra artifacts, the Dragonborn would probably want to secure some deals in orders to further progress with his ascension in power.

And like in Oblivion, our hero will be the big chief of the DB, Thiefs guild, Mages etc... allthough personally I was never a fan of that approach, 1 guy being boss at everything.

Oh, and also, he's your usual competent Nord warrior with a fair amount of knowledge in the thief aspect and a little bit in the magic aspect.

What you you think will be the CANON story for the Dragonborn?

Bethesda minimizes any canon details to previous game protagonists. With TES V they'll no doubt need to make a decision concerning the civil war, and probably the fate of the Dark Brotherhood, but beyond that I wouldn't expect many solid facts about the dragonborn.

I think it's in the lyrics to the song The Dragonborn Comes...

Our hero, our hero, claims a warriors heart.
I tell you, I tell you that the dragonborn comes.
With the voice-wielding power of the ancient Nord art.
Believe, believe the Dragonborn comes.
It's an end to the evil of all skyrim's foes.
Beware, beware, the dragonborn comes.
For the darkness has passed and the legend yet grows.
You'll know, you'll know, the Dragonborn's come.

We're here to rid Skyrim of her foes. And like any other hero living an unwritten legend, we're making those choices based on our own experiences.

Some of us are going to rid Skyrim of the Empire gone weak and corrupted in it's antiquity.
Some of us are going to rid Skyrim of every last living dragon.
Some of us will rid Skyrim of the usurper who would be High King.

In my fantasies I'd like to reappoint the Blades as warriors so powerful they can fight dragons and whole batalions of High Elves in support of their High King until the Empire has been reformed. I'm not sure that Tamriel needs a Dragonborn Emperor, I do know for sure that Tamriel needs a new government and hope of success against the Aldmeri Dominion.

What? Where did you discover this?

Well, the Sheogorath you meet in Skyrim doesn't have the stature of a Nord nor the skin color of a Redguard, all of that pretty much limits the possibilities of who was the CoC.

I quite agree, there won't be too much of a mention on things, just a few lines from certain charicters vaguely mentioning how they heard something about a dragonborne and what have you.

I don't know about that, they pretty much gave us how the CoC looks like, that kinda breaks the whole "let's not talk much about it" deal.

Well you really kind of answered your own questions there...

Canonically, the dragonborn has to be a Nord character. If that's true, then he/she'd join the stormcloaks. Stormcloaks would have won the rebellion, then realized that they were being used, said "Oh crap", and hastily rebuilt the empire.

He/she would have been a blade, and the greybeards would fall.

I suggest waiting for the DLC before continuing this topic <.<

Not sure that the Stormcloacks would have the manpower to invade Cyrodiil.

Yes, but he became a Daedric prince, and Daedric princes have the ability to alter their appearances. So he could've been a Khajiit female for all you know.

Don't really think they need to - their sights were set only on Skyrim, if I'm not mistaken. And if I am mistaken, then Ulfric has some brass ones. I could see them saying that the Stormcloaks won Skyrim, then lost it again to the Empire, rather easily

The character morphs into Sheograth. The CoC doesn't take Sheo's place, he becomes Sheo. and Sheo looks about the same in every single, or at least close enough that he's recognizable.

I'm still hoping that the CoC went mad and everything that happened in Shivering Isles was just in CoC:s mind :P

Sheogorath in TES V looks pretty much like Sheogorath in TES IV, the CoC's appearance doesn't factor into it.

Your choices will not be remembered. It doesnt matter whether you side with Tullius or Ulfriic, and doesnt matter whether you kill the emperor or not. The empire is weak and the emperor dies. The empire falls and then reforms 50 years later.

Much of the army of the empire is Nord. With the emperor dead they have a real choice to make. And he does die whether you kill him or not. Everyone dies eventually, and he is weak and old.

I bet sheogorath wasn't being entirely honest in shivering isles expansion.
The player may have taken his place, but who knows... maybe sheogorath slowly rebuilds himself using his successor as a host.
And he just likes being a bearded scottish guy at the end of the day.

My best guess is that you can consider whatever race is Native to the area to be the Cannon hero for that game. Oblivion hero would be an Imperial, Skyrim would be a Nord, Morowwind, A dark Elf, Black marsh a Argonian. As for The Civil war, The result will be determined by what political landscape Bethesda wants in the next game. If They want a Return of a united Empire, or A group of Independent kingdoms. But probably they will take the easy way out like they did with Shealgorath and Take a Homogonizing approach. Just as the hero of Oblivion Morphed into Sheogorath, regardless of gender or race, Some event will Erase the impact of your actions on the civil war, Like a massive natural disaster wiping out Both Windhelm and Solitude.

As for the guilds, you can safely assume that the dragonborn completes every one of them.

Oddly, I had the exact opposite idea. That the Dragonborn should be an Imperial, support the Empire, and support Paarthurnax.

I disagree on the Blades part of that; dialogue from the Greybeards and Paarthurnax suggests that the Dragonborn would not join the Blades, since the canon Dragonborn would be a follower of the Way of the Voice and would not use his/her gift in the manner the Blades wish him/her to. I do see the Stormcloaks winning and then allying with the remaining provinces to fight the Thalmor, since Ulfric says that's pretty much exactly what he's going to do at the end of the Stormcloak quest-line.

I don't see the Dragonborn having much impact past the Civil War, though, given Bethesda's tendency to mute the contributions of the previous game's Champion, although I suspect his/her role will get an indirect mention in a lore book in the form of the unnamed assassin that killed the Emperor (which pretty much has to be canon).

Dragon Break is caused from killing Alduin, a second Miracle of Peace occurs. Dragonborn either becomes a Greybeard or goes with the Blades to Akavir to continue to combat the dragons.

I don't see a daedric partnership being canon, other than maybe Uncle Sanguine. Heh. And that was an accident.

edit: Also, screw Canon.

That's not necessarily true. It's a Nord Civil War, meaning there are Nords on both sides. Just look at Hadvar.

Hadvar + thousands more. And people should play the Imperial side once and see Rikke. She's cool as hell.
