The "Feel" of Dawnguard

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:12 am

I have yet to see one of these topics around so i figured i would get one going that had less room for conflict.

I see alot of people complaining about it being a vampire oriented DLC and i can respect that. In recent years they have been shoved down our throat in movies, tv shows, games, etc. some even have an adverse effect on vampires (hope dracula rips the imposters apart)

however while i am looking foward to Dawnguard, it more has to do with the setting then anything else. vampires have a particular setting, one that i have seen expressed in the DLC and am greatly looking foward too, especially in an TES game.

The creepy scary dark setting i am really looking foward to the dark landscapes, foggy woods, graveyards, old horror castles, etc. TES has never tried to do anything that was really dark and scary and im hopeing they take this chance to not only do just that, but do it well.

eagerly awaiting the DLC cant wait to sneak around not because i want to, but i have to or something might sneak up on me :D

Same here, I'm looking forward to this dark undertone. Very fitting for the crusade I'm about to undertake

Shoved down our throats? You do realize Skyrim was all about dragons this, shouting that, Grey-mustaches here, dragonborn there. Dragons, elves, fantasy world; Are. All. Cliche. People should stop talking about vampires when half the things in Skyrim are considered cliche.

Mini rant aside, I am happy with the dark feel of Skyrim. It is about time we need some gritty themes in the game.

Skyrim is not 18's yet dawnguard is, why? Because its meant to be scary, bloody and generally cold and dark. Thats the feel they're going for i guess.

Well Skyrim was cliché enough in the first run, wouldn't it be bad make it EVEN MORE cliché by adding vampires vs hunters?

Compared to Shivering isles, wich looks more original?

The trailer for Skyrim said it would be an 18 but yet it turned out to only a 15 but perhaps it'll be a lot darker than the full game

I personally love the fact that they touch upon "cliche" subjects. Why? Because they make these subjects their own through The unique lore found only in the elder scrolls universe. It's the elder scrolls twist on the conventional fantasy subjects that make the series what it is

D:

But but but, beowulf is one of the oldest recorded english/norse/danish (cant remember which) stories....

Oldest actual story about a dragon I have ever seen...

Unless this is sarcasm, in which case I see what you did there.

come on guys, Skyrim and all TES games are Cliché, but an amazing cliche! there's nothing wrong with something been cliché, i love medieval fantasy, and any game/book/tv show and etc that uses it with mastery it's AMAZING for me, and everyone have to admit, TES games are one of the bests on it.
Morrowind had Bloodmon which was amazing and was focused on Werewolfs and i dont remember of NOONE complaining about it, just praising it! why Skyrim can't have a Vampire focused Expansion? i trust Bethesda, they WILL give us and amazing expansion like EVER ;)
and for anyone saying that dawnguard comes from non where and blablabla, we know almost nothing about it already, but in my opinion, they could come from the Order of the virtuous blood that we help start on Oblivion, that would be an awesome background from them :D
and about the vampire lords, there is nothing in the TES lore that say that don't exist flying vampires, they just have not been quoted in the lore yet :3

I don't even really care about the vampires, I just love the look of that evil region and the freaky purple flaming horse...

Hopefully there's a player home there somewhere.

Name 5 tv shows that include elves and dragons and fantasy world. I'll even help you out by accepting Game of Thrones.

THIS! I want a large castle/stronghold with hidden rooms, tons of storage, mannequins, display cases, weapon racks, etc. An entire library full of shelves that can hold all of Skyrim's nearly 600 books.

Vampires (and werewolves, to a lesser extent) have been shoved down our throats for the past 12 years but I'm still looking forward to the expansion. I would have preferred something different, but this still looks insanely fun. Another thing is that other things will be added besides vampires and vampire hunters. I know there's Frost Giants now. So I'm hoping for other enemies/creatures/monsters that don't svck (blood).

Apparently they do. That dude in Miami was pretty dead-set on eating that homeless guy's face.

Personally, I think it's really wierd that there are vampires or werewolves in these games. As well as Argonians and Khajiit, but that's a whole 'nother topic.
