The Final Word on Proper Teamwork

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:39 pm

Five easy tips to score big and generally be useful to your team:

  • Once the timer hits 0 at the start of a round, IMMEDIATELY empty your supply meter buffing everyone around you. If you do this correctly, you'll be at the top of the XP scoreboard in the first few seconds of the match.
  • During the course of a match, focus on those at with low ammunition/health/armor for best return on XP. Risk your character's life in the effort to buff them before your teammates do -- it's perfectly fine to be selfish in this case!
  • Pay attention to the audio cues that signify a teammate needs a health or ammunition buff. Keep your eyes peeled for low health or ammunition meters above teammates' characters.
  • When all teammates are properly buffed, buff anyone that loses the least amount of health or ammunition. You'll be doing this often.
  • Always immediately buff teammates that respawn with you after you die.

Trust me on this -- if you do the above often, you'll frequently end up atop the Best Overall scoreboard. People will remember, respect and compliment you as a Brink player as well as go out of their way to team up with you. Your Steam friends list will grow, the celestial choirs will sing and the crown of your noggin will be basked in a curious yellow light. You will be rewarded with life points by an unseen force and your causal bank balance will overflow with karmic riches.

Steam: Redtail, RT1.
Weapons of Choice: Rokstedi AR, Sea Eagle pistol.

So that's why people keep buffing me after I respawn - I thought they were being prudent, perhaps to keep me alive longer

Good post, I hadn't thought of buffing in that way before. I just hope we'll be able to see where we're going with all that buffing hanging around our heads...

There's no such thing as a bad or wasted buff, really.

This has less to do with teamwork and more to do with getting the most EXP in a match, not the same thing!

I can't imagine it being a good idea for a Medic for example to use up ALL of his supply pips in the first 10 seconds of a match, since he won't be useful to the team as a whole for the next minute. Also since Operatives can't buff I guess they can't be Teammates. Generally speaking, the guy sitting in the corner of the map spamming Buffs instead of completing objectives, offering covering fire and assisting with flanking AND buffing is going to be the guy everyone avoids, not "Respected and Complimented as a Brink player"
That Soldier sitting there at the Top of the EXP Leaderboard with no supply pips and not being able to throw grenades isn't the guy I'm going to add on any friends list any time soon. The same with the Engineer who is unable to lay mines and turrets or the Operative who leapfrogs on the aftermath of a firefight Comms Hacking-Disguising-Comms Hacking Disguising just for the EXP boost. The title of "Best Overall" is little comfort when you've lost, or even when you've won and did very little to aid the Teammates actually winning the fight for you.

To conclude, a good Teammate in Brink does a HELLOVA lot more than Buff everyone in sight for XP.
