The Flintstones' Reboot on Hold

I remember we had a thread on this last year, and a lot of people were pretty upset about it.

Now that it has been put on hold, I think that it is probably never going to happen. Which is probably for the best. MacFarlane says that he wants to stay true to the originals, but I don't really see that happening. Honestly all I see is another Family Guy clone like American Dad and the Cleveland Show.

Aw, that's a shame. I love Family Guy and American Dad and I was looking forward to seeing what he'd do with something like this.

Good. He was probably going to ruin it anyway. Besides, what with Family Guy and American Dad as well as the Cleveland Show he does what, one show per cartoon every 3 months?

Yeah, we'd get episode one of "The Flintstones" then three months later Family Guy, then three months later American Dad so it'd be a year before episode two.

He should sell the rights to someone else.

Don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy and American Dad but he releases episodes so incredibly slow that I had no hopes foe Flintstones. Besides, I felt he'd ruin it with yet another Family Guy clone.

I'm kinda glad it's put on hold or maybe even scraqed, all this would have been is Family Guy in the stone age and I was never that much into Flintstones anyway. I didn't mind the series just wasn't a fan of it.

We kinda want to keep it, more or less, the same. The stories that we tell will be a little more current.

That's the part that sort of worried me to begin with. I saw what they did to Looney Tunes to make it "current" and that's one of the worst cartoons I've ever seen. They also turned Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner into cheap looking 3D shorts.

Still, I think MacFarlane would do right by the series. I'm not as big a fan of Family Guy as I used to be, but he's a talented guy. He's also got a pretty good background in animation, both projects he's worked on and his influences.

This.

Please stop "rebooting" all the old stuff and make NEW original stuff. The originals - well, most of them - don't need rebooting...we need more original IP's so 50 years from now they won't just be making reboots of later day reboots!

You've gotta admit though, the new Thundercats is pretty bad-ass.

This has been the best news I have heard about television for awhile. I wasn't happy when I heard Mcfarlane was going to take up the show. He would have destroyed it like he does all of his TV shows.

Yes his shows were good at first, but like every other show, they got worse as they went along.

It's like most people have no originality- or just want to get big on an already tried-out and successful product.
Well, some reboots can be... good, but usually they're nothing much.

Yup, that one was the good kind of reboot I mentioned. Rare but... It's really rare. But good. I can even say I liked it more than the original. (though I didn't watch that many episodes of either, I plan to continue watching them)

Battlestar Galactica's another one. And then reboots masquerading as prequels tend to be pretty damn good too, X Men: First Class, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Deus Ex: Human Revolution...

In my perfect world Seth wouldn't even do a reboot.

Leave the Flintstones alone. Its an iconic 60s cartoon and the last thing it needs it a makeover into a crude, obnoxious, current cartoon. Come up with new ideas.

I like crude and obnoxious, but I do agree that this reboot of the Flintstones would far more resemble something else than it's original.. so.. no to this.

I've seen a few episodes and I even have nice little TC action figure collection and I have to say this reboot is great but I keep missing the new episodes  .

Some reboots are ok. The animated Captain Scarlet a few years back didn't hold it's punches. Trouble is, the Flintstones (which I loved as a kid) has already been ruined by odd films and little green men, find some new old thing to ruin that hasn't been ruined already.

X Men: First Class was nice. Battlestar, too. I suspect that the newest version will be pretty good.
I haven't heard of the new Planet of the Apes until now, but I have seen a clip/trailer of Human Revolution. It seems interesting.

Reboots can easily get good if they learn to stay relatively close to the original's main theme while not copying it- or another movie/show/game completely (animated feature sequels can sometimes fail at this), and still develop its own theme which makes it unique.

Better late than never.

Really though, I don't see what's wrong with it. So it's not the most sophisticated humour in the world? So what? That's not what MacFarlane is aiming for...

I think it's their way of having the younger generation experience we us older generation experienced..entertainment wise. However anything old is best presented in its original fashion. The spark never dies.
