The game is too easy and forgiving at low levels

Post » Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:57 pm

I have just started my second character and I'm either doing something terribly wrong or there is someting weird about the game itself. You start off with 100 health, stamina and magic each, right?

Why can I slaughter a whole bandit camp with just peasant clothes and a rusty iron dagger at level one? I still get my butt handed right back to me on my other level 30 character on some occasions, but something is borked when it comes to low levels. Back in 2011, the game was still way too easy till about level 10, even on master difficulty. After about level 10 to 15, it got better...

Apart from the ridiculously high regeneration rates for the player, do you think lowering the players starting health and stamina to about 20-50 would be more 'realistic' ?

If you are on a pc, you can use mods to fix things to your liking. Skyrim is not dark souls, so if thats the difficulty you crave (i can relate) just hold out for a month. Skyrims about playing in a sandbox more than about white knuckle moves.

That's because your level 1 hasn't met a Saber Cat yet.

What? Any time I walk into a bandit camp - hell, even just encountering *two* random bandits! - I get my butt kicked all over the place. At Normal difficulty. With a complete suit of Leather Armor and a Steel Sword. So I don't know what you're talking about with peasant clothes and iron dagger.

You know what's funny? ANY level I fight bandits? Or Forsworn? I get. My. Ass. Handed to me. Every time. Unless I've spammed my Smithing up to 100 and created stupid-powerful weapons and armor.

I should have been more specific. Yes, there is stuff that is going to mop the floor with you, sabre cats are the best example. It's mainly the bandits that confuse me. I just checked them - They have 30 health and also level one, even the ones with steel weapons. How much does a skeever have?

Exactly my thought as well. What bandits at level one are you fighting OP, cause I need to start there from now on. I couldn't even go into the mine near the starter town until I was level 4 I think.

20 health? That's ridiculous unless you like being one-shotted by anything stronger than a skeever.

Yes, but on the other hand, watching a well-equipped warrior with a two handed axe not being able to chop down a Bosmer with three power-attacks also does not look right ;-)

The thing is that I am not sure if a level one player character is 'too' strong or those bandits, wolves etc are too weak at level one...

you can run right around said trolls/enemies, so this doesn't apply.

Why don't they just create a complaining forum?
it'd be nice.. Ye'know, to have to some piece once a while.
Then go over there when your angry.

If you use melee, not if you use fire magic.

On topic, if you're on pc you can alter it otherwise wel, you're out of luck.

The game is too easy and forgiving at low levels

And even more so at high levels. Well, apart from the few high level enemy types that appear around level 30.

But, as always, mods and then some :hehe:

Well think about it. You just spent a long time learning the game with one character perfecting your skills and now you start a new game where enemies are back to being regular old dumb dumbs so of course you would be able to hand their butts to them in a battle.

And yet there's another thread complaining about the frost troll on High Hrothgar. Just imagine that encounter with half your current health, woooo.

And what? "Ridiculously high regeneration rates"? I'll have you know that the magicka regeneration rate svcks like a skeever butt on early levels.

If your bandit encounters are going to be "challenging", then your frost troll would probably kill you in one hit. And then more people would go "WHHYYY IS GETTING TO THE GREYBEARDS SO HARD"

It's been logic for 1000 years. Everything starts out easy, then gets harder as you go.

Right. Lvl 1, No armor rating, a "rusty" iron dagger that does 4-5 points of damage, master difficulty, no magic, and taking out a bandit camp head on is hardly a challenge.

Interesting theory...

Edit: 20-50 pts of health! You've been hitting the skooma I say.

So can I... Even on master. By simply sitting on a rock, shooting arrows, and casting spells. just. like. you.
