I enter the store and move the shelf in front of the door, but then the guard finds me in the other room....how do I avoid this? Thanks for the early help.

After you enter the store you need to block the door with a cabinet (I can't fully remember if you can block the door here, but if you can then do so), then enter the main part of the store and go into the little office. Get the rum and the handle.Then run back into the main store area and over on the right you'll find a trap door behind the shop counter. Use the handle on the trapdoor.

I had figured out the trap door and found the handle, however I can't seem to equip the handle to open the door. I even tried to just target the trap door and open it (since I had the handle in my inventory). I just get the "I need to find a handle to lift...message). Then, of course, the copper gets me and I get to do it all over again.Any insight on opening this trap door with the handle would be great!!

Only certain items are automatically used, all you have to do is look down at the hole in the trapdoor, go to your inventory and click on the handle.

Thanks! I'll give it a go after work today. Nothing to add confusion like some things work from inventory and some things automatically work...

Sorry for the dumb question, but How do you move the shelf in front of the door? I'm at the part where you sneak past the cop and go into the back of the store, but I try to push the shelf with no avail. Thanks in advanced.

If you're really serious about not being able to move the shelf, then here's what'cha gotta do...after you sneak past the creepy guard guy and get inside the back door of the shop...you simply have to close the door (by hitting action while facing the door's edge) then face the shelves.Go to the left side of the shelves, then turn your character so that he is facing the left side of the bookcase (your character's shoulder pressed against the wall)...Get it? I mean, imaging you are pushing this shelf in front of the door...P.S. if that was hard for you then you're in for a treat, this game is oddly buggy.

Are you pressing "action" while trying to push the bookshelf? That might be opening the door. To push shelves around (and other things) you do not need to press "use/action" or "fire" or anything. Just walk into the object in the direction you want it to move and it'll slowly slide along.Alli

Maybe someone knows... Everytime in that store when I walk in into the room with poor man hanged my game hangs. Is there any remedy for this?Thanks...

You CAN fully block the door with the cabinet but you can't afford to mess about. Then there's only one way out of the cellar and that involves pushing a pair of ladders towards the wall to smash it down.
