The infamous "slit throat" killcam never triggers

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:41 am

So I never get the infamous backstab killcam to trigger... What could be the reason for this (other killcams trigger normally and I've done 100's of sneak kills)?

I usually play with dual daggers and attack with both (click with both mouse buttons at once, no power attack), does that prevent it?

Also, I assume attacking with both daggers does more damage than just one when backstabbing.

Any input would be great :)

I've gotten it before. Unless you're saying that you're not getting it since the patch...

... anyway, shouldn't this be in a support forum?

Happens ~20% the time to me, although not if the victim is sleeping or seated.

I've played several stealth characters and I only had it happen ONCE (in probably 1000 or more kills total)... Ironically enough, that was with my first ever sneak attack

Edit: This has been the case ever since vanilla and all patches since.

I want to preface this by saying that my dagger sneak attacks with the DB gloves and sneak perks land for x30 normal damage. I **THINK** that the cut scenes only trigger when the blow is enough for an insta-kill.

I think this specific kill move is a "one handed dagger" kill move. If you charge a dual wield power attack it won't trigger. It's possible also it only works with the dagger in the main hand.

You have to be behind and be able to kill them in one hit. Works for me but I still find it incredibly annoying to be svcked out of 1st person view.

I have a stealth character as well. I get the slit throat animation all the time it seems like. It does not matter if I have duel daggers, or a dagger in MH and sword offhand. However, when you get behind them just use the MH attack, dont charge up both weapons to attack.

EDIT: Also in response to BounceDK I have gotten the slit throat animation whilst staying in 1st person view.

You can facestab them in the best TF2 spy fashion too. All that matters is that you prepare a one handed dagger power attack that will kill in a single hit if released while you aren't detected at all.

I'm assuming it's the same mechanics for Assassin's Blade. I get the throat slit 100% of the time if the NPC is positioned correctly. Make sure you are positioned directly at 6 o'clock. Maybe try holding forward while attacking?

That's what I was going to say. Just use one dagger and it should trigger every time you do enough damage for a one-hit kill. I've had it happen so many times it almost lost its novelty.

I had the same problem in the beginning but after a friend showed how to do it I'm getting that kill shot almost all the time.

The way I do it is, a regular attack only with the main hand weapon. No power attacks or double attacks.

I have also seen there's two versions of that attack, one where I see the characters from the side, like a movie. Then there's another one from the first person perspecitve. But since I tend to play in third person I have only seen that one once, if it's related to that... not sure.

I have also seen a third dagger kill shot version when I attack from the front, wich I usully do when it comes to Falmers.

I had it trigger the other day with a sword in my main hand. I think the keys are:
  • Only use the main hand on the attack (no off-hand or dual attacks)
  • Attack from behind while successfully sneaking
  • Use a blade - no slitting throats with a hammer.

I've had this happen as well. Other enemies on the radar are fine. Although when it did happen for me the others were far enough away to not see anything.

I've done slit throats when enemies were nearby. Like doing the Katariah infiltration, I got two in a row on people standing next to each other. I even got the animation when assassinating Sven in the middle of a pub. People clapped like he finished his song, and I went undetected.

It happens to me all the time, like 50% of my stealth back-attacks are kill-cam animations. Though my daggers are enough to kill instantly with the 15x damage boost, maybe that's why.

I see this posted all the time but it's just not my experience at all. With backstab/assassin's blade I get the animation every time regardless of how many NPC's are present, as long as I'm not detected. With the arrow cam, I killed two mages standing side by side and I got the killcam on both of them.

i believe it doesnt trigger when using two weapons but for me it happens on almost every humanoid foe i fight if i sneak attack them and my attack would do enough damage to kill them.

You have to be in sneak and approaching them while attacking.
