The "Join the Stormcloaks or Imperials?" thread.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:46 pm

I entitled this topic as such, to hopefully get the most information.

I wish to receive as many pro's and con's to joining either side as possible.

My first question is this:

If I do a task for either the Stormcloaks or the Imperials, for example:

The one where there is a choice between capturing a certain city for the imperials, or clearing out a fort for the Stormcloaks (following blood on the ice quest)

Does that mean I am permanently locked in to choosing that side permanently? Just from doing the one task for either side so that I can get Hjerim?

Or can you do tasks for both, and actually joining one or the other is a whole seperate thing?

One can not simply make an "official" thread.

Once you start one side you are locked in. I had 2 options in my quest list and when I officially joined the Stormcloaks it said "Failed - Join Imperial Legion".

There's one last chance to switch sides, which involve back stabbing the other; but beyond that, you are stuck with the side you chose.
And you can get Hjerim regardless of which side you join. Just a matter of when.

What do you mean? Could you please elaborate?

I am trying to complete blood on the ice bug free. After that I want to get Hjerim since I am already in Windhelm.

However, I do not even want to come anywhere NEAR the thought of joining the stormcloaks or imperials yet.

However, as I understand it, to get hjerim, you have to be named thane of windhelm.

Which requires you to do a task for either the imperials or stormcloaks. I do not want to get locked in to either side, here.

Please reply with a hidden spoiler box.

By the way, how is this done? How do you make it to where someone can click "show spoiler"? In the little button? I can't figure it out.

Spoiler
One of the earliest quests for both sides is a recovery job. Who you give item to is the last chance to change sides. After that you are stuck.

By putting the words ''offical thread'' I count that your topic will be locked in...hour or two. (Unless a nice moderator edits your thread name)

But I'm going to contribute to your topic none the less:
Joining either of the faction locks you on their side, there is no way to stay on neutral ground with both of the factions. If you want to touch their quest, it's one or the other.

Both the factions offers pretty much the same, no real lose if you choose one over the other. Choose which factions cause fits for you.

Btw first reply to this topic was spot on :P

I thought that would happen soon into dialog with the storm cloaks, as i wanted to setup in whitrun, house and all, blacksmithin, maybe marry the blacksmiths daughter, But then I thought I will throw in with them after all it was the imperials that wanted to be-head an inocent man. I dont know how Lydia will react to me..if she survived.

Whiterun, my beautiful city was destroyed, my alea the huntres died on my hand when i attacked that city, and for me, i prefer Solitude than Windhelm

So... Imperial

I once killed some imperial guards who were moving a stormcloak prisoner (only reason I did was because they were giving me serious attitude as I walked by). I freed the stormcloak and he took off. On neither side still. Do you have to commit?

I believe that once you take the oath for either side you are locked in. Other than that you can do what you want, free Stormcloaks soldiers, whatever.

I've so far stayed sort of neutral, but there is really no way. We're talking about humans here and nothing involving humans ends well. I'll leave imperial patrols transporting stormcloak prisoners alone for the time being, and vice versa. Both sides will give you attitude -- if you don't want trouble sheath your weapon. But Thalmor? I'll cut the prisoner loose and kill the Thalmor.

There's a way to find out-

Make a save, then do one or the other, and see if you are stuck with them. If you're not happy, reload the save.

Nope, you can betray the oath for either side. The last choice you get is when you deliver the jagged crown

Despite not getting a quest marker for it, you can still bring it to the other side. It will lock you into whichever side you bring it to.

I have played civil war quests on the both side. I really enjoyed both and the next thoughts from the both sides doesn't say which side is better. Which side you choose depends on your character. For me Stormcloaks fitted better for my character but Imperial Legion gave more to think about and somehow affected and raised my character more which was at least as enjoying as Stormcloaks. My Nord got the glory of war but my Imperial got the weight of war. They were two totally different playing experiences.

Stormcloaks
+ I was a Nord so politically it was easy choice to made and I had hate against the Empire. Fighting for your faith and country may feel quite heroic.
+ It was always fun to free captured stormcloak soldiers and kill all Imperial soldiers and Thalmor I met on the roads
+ Battle of Whiterun was more enjoying when you was needed to rush in the city and force Jarl to surrender
+ Stormcloaks showed honor to each others and after the war soldiers said me when I saw them along my travels "Stormblade, that's an honor."
+ They see Talos as the main divine.
+ After the quests you are treated like a hero by Ulfric and Galmar. Ulfric wants you to stand on his side when he speak to men after victory. He gives
great glory to you.
+ You get Stormcloak officer armor which is one of the best looking suits in the game.
- To conquer one hold you normally need to do only one quest. It seems not right.
- Only one type of armor so it doesn't fit for every character to fight in uniform.
+ - Leaders of both sides (General Tullius and Ulfric Stormcloak) doesn't raise any kind of feelings in you.

Imperial Legion
+ Has three armor types so it's easy to wear uniform.
+ You saw several fellow soldiers marching on roads which brought the feeling of well organised order.
+ During one quest battle to conquer a fort a dragon joined in the battle to mess with both sides. Quite epic.
+ To conquer one hold you need to take over a few forts to do so.
+ Solitude is more likeable city than Windhelm.
+ Legion pays better than Stormcloaks and you can also get better money by looting enemy corpses. (Stormcloak soldiers carries often scaled
helms which are light and are valuable, Imperial soldiers never have anything valuable.)
- You have to be same side with Thalmor.
- You are against the Talos worshipping.
- Battle of Whiterun happens as a defending battle so you just stand on the walls and gates at the front of city and battle never takes in the city.
- Imperial soldiers doesn't show honor to each other.
- General Tullius doesn't honor his enemies, doesn't bring honorable burials to the Jarl of Windhelm - instead of that he promises to bring Ulfric's
head in Imperial city so they can put it on a spike on the walls of the city.
- After you won the civil war General Tullius doesn't show any kind of respect to you. When you go near to him after the victory he says to you "Go
away from me."
