Why is the Burned Man called the Malpais Legate? what does Malpais mean? I googled it, wiki'd it, and I couldn't find a sufficient answer, what is his name an allusion to? No comprende! :brokencomputer:

Malpais can rougly be translated to "badlands" (mal = bad, país = land/country. Both from Latin). So a full translation of Malpais Legate would be something like the "badlands general".

A malpaís is a landform characterized by eroded rocks of volcanic origin in an arid environment.This describes many areas, but is strongly connected to the southwestern United States because of the Spanish settlers that gave the landform its name. That was his name in the Legion because he was unstoppable and couldn't be moved, much like a landform

The Malpais is the name of an area in north western New Mexico. He most likly got the name due to some battle near or in the area. There are several malpais though so which one is anyones guess, maybe one in AZ but I don't know if there was/is much volcanic activity there.
