Not a fan of either really. Though I do own Gorod's Process of a New Decline.
'Tis a good album. I am not a huge fan of tech death in general because a lot of it seems technical just to be technical. But Gorod and the others I mentioned aren't like that to my ears.
I'm more bothered by wankery myself, like Necrophagist, Origin and Brain Drill, to mention a few. Just annoying, trying to outclass each other with substanceless playing of no coherrent structure.
Gorod isn't all too bad though, just... something not that interesting, as far as I'm concerned. Okay for a play very rarely, for background noise mostly.
Anyway, I've been pretty out of the scene for the last few years (graduated from college, got a job, woman, etc.) but I've been re-discovering early Carcass lately and falling in love all over again. Images of mortuaries, dissections, autopsies, and cannabilism like no one else can bring them. Good, good stuff.
I don't really care about Carcass after Symphonies of Sickness, but that and the album before it are killer.

I have both on vinyl. Symphonies of Sickness is even signed. Got both of them really cheap too about a year ago. I paid 100SEK for both of them. Best deal ever!

Agreed. I never got into the whole "melodic death metal" thing. I generally like my metal covered in blood and relatively lo-fi. (There are a couple exceptions though, I dig Ihsahn's solo stuff and a couple other things like that.)

Yep, melodic = lame for me. There are a few exceptions like Arghoslent, but for the most part I stay away from that stuff.

I respect that, but you have to admit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk33XxnPJNs Gorod track is awesome.

I never got into regular Death Metal. The only Death Metal I really like is Dragged Into Sunlight. Well, besides Melodic Death, Death Doom, etc.
Do you have a knee jerk reaction to lash out at anyone who mentions the word hipster? Do you have a bushy beard or a weird mustache? Do you wear old man hats? Are you pretentious? Are you an activist? Do you reject bands based on how well known they are, without ever listening to them?
If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, I have bad news for you.
All this talk about hipster... it's like with those goth kids on South Park who are all about non-conformism, but they still conform to just another set of thought.
