The military tactics of Skyrim

An odd thread idea.

Assume you were Ulfric or Tullius.

What do you think the best way to win the Civil War was.

Do you agree or disagree with any of their choices in game like assassinating the High King or letting the Thalmor walk all over you.

Answer as you will.

Heck, you can even talk about what you would have done were you Titus Mede II and heard about it all.

Cause, Lord knows, he's been called to the carpet for his.

I would have executed Ulfric first. War's over, folks, let's go home!

Seriously, that's one decision that can't be justified in-game. The longer you wait for your enemy to be executed, the more time you give him to escape. I know they tried to say that the Thalmor intervened, but frankly, Tullius should have been able to order the execution to be first anyway.

This is as a Dragonborn.

All things being equal I would side with the Stormcloaks. Skyrim is Nordic - if you don't like don't move there. That being said: there would be no state-supported oppression of other peoples, but there would be no affirmative action either. I wouldn't have used a Thu'un on Torygg because it wasn't necessary, but he needed to go. If I had the forces to take over Skyrim I would take one hold at a time and after each one I would give the remaining jarls the option to expel the Empire. If they didn't expel the Imperial forces or denounce their allegiance then one by one I would take them. I wouldn't depose any of the jarls, but they would be on notice that if they didn't fall into line they would be removed. After all of the holds were taken I would not accept the title of High King and probably wouldn't even accept a jarl position. The Thalmor embassy would have 2 weeks to pack up shop and get out.

I would consult with Paarthanax to see if he could bring any dragons into line. I'm sure he understands that the Domninion would not let the dragons survive anymore than they would allow other humanoid races to survive. Any dragon that could co-exist with the humanoids would be left alone and asked to help with defense, but would not be pressed into service. Any dragon that persisted attacks would be killed, soul absorbed, and have heinous looking armor made from it's bones and scales.

Yeah, I'm a fascist.

I won't bore y'all with my Ulfric or Tullius versions. :P

I'd ambush Ulfric and his entourage near the border and execute him in front of everyone at Helgen. Then let everyone else go, including the border-jumper in rags. Hopefully if something unforeseeable were to happen, it would be after Ulfric got beheaded.

The one firebrand pushed the issue, but Tullius also could have wanted to rub it all in by making Ulfric watch his men die first.

Its interesting how the Stormcloaks and Imperials are so equally matched. Either side you pick seems to win with just one guy joining them. The only difference is that once you get rid of Stormcloaks, they're gone. The Imperials have plenty extra men to spare.

Actually their error was attempting to kill off the hero character first. That triggered Alduin.

I would walk into Windhelm, because they just care about Imperial soldiers. Kill Ulfric and pay the 1000 gold bounty.

Well I certainly wouldn't have allowed the Thalmor to push me around and establish both a law and several strongholds in my land which greatly favor them, then allow them to walk all over my scape and arrest my people with little evidence and torture/kill them in private prisons for worshiping something. In Hammerfell the Redguard and Alik'r have done well to resist the Thalmor, should have turned to them and let them spearhead the war effort against the Thalmor. Hire assassins, rogues, thieves, and bandits to take out Thalmor leaders, gather intel, disrupt trade/patrol routes, and assault fortresses. The special forces of their day and age.

I have to say I pity Titus Mede II.

If he'd DIED during the retaking of the city or immediately after, he'd be remembered as a great hero of the Empire.

One who people would have probably mourned daily.

Instead, because he signed an unequal treaty he's going down as a coward and a fool who doomed the Empire.

Hell, even the guy who employs you to kill him thinks he's a patriot.

If I were Tullius I would have a full proof plan for attracting ALL the stormcloaks to my side: I would declare war on the Thalmor and fiight the actual enemy.
