I want to start this mission where i am supposed to meet Karliah at the Ragged Flagon. however she is not there, she is in the bar in winterhold. she has an arrow over her head and i try to talk to her but nothing happens????? can anyone tell me what im doing wrong???

I do not know what you did up to that point. You might have not done anything wrong but just be missing a detail or you could have found a bug. The game has a lot of quests and with all its freedom also come many little bugs.

You can always go back to an older save file and try again.

Start by telling us what you did, the name of the quests and what places you have been to.

i have done a lot of quests. i completed the previous quest hard answers. after that quest i did some other quests and then came back to this one. ehen i switch the quest on, it says meet karliah at the ragged flagon. however on the map it hows her in winterhold. i go to winterhold and she is in the basemant of the bar with an arrow over her head. i try and talk but all she says is "what is it" ...

its a real pain in the ass! i dont want to go back to a previous save as i have done a lot since i completed the hard answers quest.....

Save with the swearing. Make sure you did everything for Hard Answers. Did you get Gallus' Journal decoded?

Only if you are absolutely sure you have finished the previous quest and you do have a problem can you try to force the quest to advance. Make a savefile, then open the text console by pressing the `-key (below ESC) and enter:

setstage TG07 25

Then speak to Brynolf.

See "Quest Stages" in the wiki for other quest codes. Know that you can screw up hard with using the text console.

what do you mean by screw up hard? ive never used the text console before

Screw up hard, as in making a mistake.

Try setting it to the next higher quest stage. 30 I believe it is.

A non-console command way to fix this is to re-do the Dwemer Museum rubbing and take it back to her in Winterhold. This can be a real pita with the locked doors and stuff, and if this is not what's broken, after you get there you will not be able to activate the wall. Karliah is very buggy. I blame her non-lore purple eyes...

I got the rubbing a 2nd time and still couldn't get her to move. I had more bugs in the Thieve's Guild than all the rest of the quest lines combined.
