The Modern Blacksmith

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:40 am

Hiya,

As you probably know, smithing Iron Daggers no longer provides us with a way to level smithing fast. Now, cast all thoughts of RP aside, as I have an RP excuse for why my character is good at smithing, even without practice. Only problem is the game needs to be told that and I'm NOT on PC.

How does the Modern Blacksmith (ie post-iron daggers) level smithing as quickly as possible? Money is more or less a non-issue, as I have nearly 50,000 gold and can sell a great deal of very shiny things collected in Hjerim for probably that much again, twice.

So any thoughts?

I know I'm not helping but on console your screwed as am I , that being said there could be a way because i can't level up conjuration by binding weapons anymore but raising dead works even quicker than the weapons did , i went into bleak falls barrow after buying raise dead and came out with 40 conjuration and lvl 7 or 8 while I was lvl 1 going in 0.o so there might be a way for smithing , dunno :o

Leather helmets maybe?
I did that before the patch, don't know if it works now.

Any ways to level smithing rather than conjuration...?

EDIT: Leather helmets? Are they a confirmed method?

Transmute spell + iron ore = plenty of gold ore for a low-level character. Don't know about higher levels. Smithing is now related to the value of the item made, IIRC.

Edit: spelling/left word out.

well i think the value of the item is considered more now, your best bet is to get loads of iron ore. use transmute spell on it till you get loads of gold ingots, and craft a ton of gold amulets and gold + valuable stone jewellery.

Jewelry and leather bracers do a good job for me.

As someone said, if you utilise transmute, you'll pump out jewelry proper fast, for immense profit AND decent grindability.

ha the only way to level smithing quickly without actually smithing alot is to pay for smithing training and find smithing skill books...theres 2 i can think of, 1 is at the skyforge and the other is by the lunar forge, silent moons camp iirc west of whiterum

Ah, training may well work...! And I can pickpocket the cash back.

EDIT: Why won't Eorland Gray-Mane teach me smithing...?

Here's what I did last night. Won't get you to 100 right way, but it's a considerable jump.

Dwarven Bows.

I did the Unfathomable Depths quest, which will net you lots of dwarven junk to melt down into ingots. The Ancient Knowledge perk you gain from the quest nets you an additional 15% skill gain with Smithing. Stack on the Warrior Stone, get a goods night rest (Well Rested xp bonus), and that'll get you going nicely. Continue on to other dwaven ruins, carrying out as much dwarven junk as you can find, to melt down into ingots. Buy up all the iron ingots you can find, as you'll need 1 iron ingot per 2 dwarven ingots per bow.

This is by no means the best way, but just a way I tried and got me some really good skill gain. Helmets and bows in general seem to be really good.

I found that crafting a bunch of Bows will level your smithing ability at a considerate pace since they only require ingots. Right now, I'm buying as many Ebony Ingots as I can so I can make Ebony Bows (Requires 3 ingots and is worth 1440)

Well I'm at Smithin 75 but unfortunately only put in two perk points (steel and arcane) and being at level 43 takes a while to get perks. Oh well, I'll think of something.

Training was very expensive and even one level of it meant I couldn't pickpocket... now Eorland is 10,000 gold richer. Meh, lucky him.

Unfortunately, no. After the patch, it changed smithing to level up based on the price of the items. Not the quantity. Just like alchemy.

If you want to take advantage of the Smithing power-leveling pre-patch, just delete the cache on your hard-drive. When you start Skyrim, you will be prompted to install the latest update. Say no, play the game offline, do the power-leveling, then update with your smithing at 100.

I thought you couldn't play save games from post-update without the update?

I used this as well as making jewelry with the transmute spell. My smithing skill is now 98 on a post 1.5 character with roughly 100 pieces of jewelry made and 450 dwarven bows.
