Is he retarted, or is it a bug in the game? I helped him aquire some amulet for him, and I thought it would be cool to have a mage companion, since im a mage my self, and then we can blast everything in our way, and he wont come in the way of my AOE spells.

anyway, I took him with me, and we fighted a Giant and a mammoth at the same time. He got beaten, and after that he drew his bow in front of him (like cowering his face with it), or took his hands in front of him like he was ready to fistfight the damned giant.

Probably ran out of magicka.

They can run out of magicka during a tough fight, just like you. And just like you, it takes some time for them to restore it.

I have Aranea Ienith as a follower and this happens to her sometimes. That's why I gave her some armor and a decent melee weapon.
