While playing Morrowind, I got the impression that the Nords was a rough race. That they crave for battle and looked down at weaker races. Before Skyrim was released, I imagined that all the Nords would be wearing armor and have actual battle weapons (Not does little daggers). Regardless of current events, Skyrim is actually quite peaceful for a race that love war. I see so many Nord commoner dress in these peasant clothes with a dagger or nothing, and I think to myself, "Man what kind a Nord are you?" I don't think Skyrim does the race justice for the warriors they should be. You get what I'm saying?
I don't think it is so much that the Nord love war as it is that violence is a part of their culture and tradition. I never really bought the whole picturing the Nords were given before Skyrim, but I understand why some people might have. A people is not known for their commoners who stays in their land and do normal things like running a store or farming; they become known for the people who travel the world. Among the Nords this have mostly been warrriors, mercenaries and sailors from what I have understood, hence the onedimentional view of their culture and customs.

Come to think of it of, I do believe my opinion is based on a stereotype.
Skyrim is too "quiet". I always thought t that the nords would be like vikings. The only thing that feels viking-ish is the architecture.
To be fair: The vikings weren't as violent or aggressive as many believe. Most people in Scandinavia were not warriors, they were farmers, traders and craftsmen.

Most likely. It is easy to believe that the Nords were a warrior people to a much larger extent based on the imformation most people find about them pefore Skyrim was released.
Thousands of years living under a different culture will eventually change the original culture. Many nords by skyrim's time have become "imperialized".

Yet we see people walking around doing nothing. In the viking age, you HAD to work to survive. Also the inns doesnt have that viking atmosphere. They are mostly empty and useless. But the worst is that Skyrim doesn have that "myth" that norse folklore had. Im not saying to completely copy norse-mythologi, I just think that the game lacks mystery.

Yes that they some become imperialized and accept the accord of the Thalmor is quite irritating to true NORDS!
Wow, and I thought Skyrim is too violent and barbaric.
What I experience all over the region is that the only worthy souls are the one who loves to bash skulls and drinks mead, and only mead until liver Cancer killed them. That's why I have 'Be a Milk-Drinker' mod.
"Yeah, I'm a milk-drinker. It's healthy and makes you strong. Got a problem with that?" "No, YOU go home to your mother! FUS RO DAH!!"

Makes me think a little bit about Ulfric's statements about the Imperials making the Nords weak.

the vikings preferred to mess up other countries, not their own and they just got their bad reputation because of robbing christian churches. they did not bother about that because they were simply no christians - for them it was just houses which are easy to rob and lots a valuables inside
"Warrior race" would mean that Nords (or any other "warrior race") usually have very able and talented warriors. Not that every beggar on the street knows how to fight with a battleaxe.

True, the Nords don't even worship the Nord Gods anymore.
I was so disappointed when Ulfric 'blessed' me in the name of the nine.
What, you expect everybody to be in armor 24/7, even the housewives killing the dinner with their bare hands every day, then they go and have a bloody spar with the neighbors?
Historically the 'warrior races' of earth managed to put, in times of absolute insanity, barely a tenth of their total male population on the field, leading to economic and social collapse.
