The novel story and the game story are the same? *spoilers*

First off, game looks great and I can't wait for october.
So im starting to read the novel, and I got to the chapter, (and this is what the spoiler might be) where Lt. Raines, the main protagonist in the novel, steps out of the ark and is attacked by mutants. He is then saved by another character, Dan Hagar, who shots the mutants as they are about to kill Raines. Now as im reading this im thinking..hmmm this is describing, that one part I see in the trailers all the time. The part where your tackled by mutants and they get shot by the sniper. So I looked it up and yep Dan Hagar, voiced by John Goodman is the same character, who is seen in the trailers saving the playable character.
So I stopped reading the novel for now, cause now im not sure if this is just a similiar storyline (and a quite good one too, you guys should check out the book), or if the book and the game are the same story.
Either way im not [censored]ing about it. Again the game looks great and both the comics and book are pretty good. Any thoughts?

I haven't gotten that far in the book but if that's what you read then to me it looks like it's the same story we've seen in trailers.

They've said the player's character is an unnamed character so it's now kinda confusing. Is the character in the game Lt. Raines? Is another 'unnamed' character that happens to be saved by Hagar in the same way Hagar saved (or will save) Lt. Raines?

Another thing I noticed was that in the chapter where Lt. Raines is going to be put in the Ark, Captain Hill told him his Ark will emerge 120 years from "now" but I don't know what date "now" is. So if we suppose "now" is 2029 then that would be year 2149. In an interview http://www.gametrailers.com/video/quakecon-07-rage/23315 they said it starts around 75 years after impact (2029) so that would be around 2105. So game character is supposed to emerge around 2105 and Lt. Raines around 2149.

So I'm still confused. Hopefully someone from Rage development team help us to clarify this.

Thats another thing I was trying to figure out. The dates. First of all, the dates are altered because the earth's orbit has shifted making days longer, but either way, the book says that following the julian calendar its 2114, but due to the days being longer now, its 2112. So ya as far as Lt. Raines (book guy) goes, he emerges on those dates. My best guess, and it's just a guess, is that the author of the book, who is also one of the writters of the game, might of made, not a tie in story, but a diferent story using some of the same characters you will meet in the game. I just really thought it was weird reading a perfect description of the rescue scene in the trailer, and Dan Hagar being the exact same character in both rescues.

Another thing to consider is the characters apperance. This assuming the cover of the book has the art work of Raines in it, because Raines wasn't described, at least not early in the book. In some of the trailers, you can actually see what the character looks like. If you pay attention on some trailer scenes involving the RC car bomb, you can clearly see the playable character, using the remote to control the RC car (im talking about the dude rocking the mohawk). And yes it is the same character we see on the cover of the book, and in other places too. The cover of the gameinformer, on the gamestop posters etc. But maybe they just choose that image as the cover for the book, and it's not really what Raines looks like at all. But the trailers do prove however, that the hero in the game, does have a face to go with him. The Mohawk guy
