The Oculory wont focus!

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:38 am

Hi.

I'm having some problems with my Revealing The Unseen quest. I'm done with the ruins of Mzulf and now i have to focus this Oculory. The Oculory crystals wont react to my flames or my frostbit. I've seen on youtube that this is a common bug. For me, being a mage, it's very frustrating that i can't complete the Mage College quest.

Any tips?

Wow- the crystals don't react to sustained fire or cold?
You could go into the room again, instigate conversation with the scientist again in hopes of triggering something....are all the prerequisites done?

Otherwise, go to earlier save.

Are you on PC? Some graphic cards cause a problem with the light ray's to be unseen or in the wrong location.
If on PC you can also try to set the quest stage further.

Also; have you tried other flame/frost spells?

i hope this helps, i don't think its a glitch, first of all it is tricky, but don't try to line up all 3 beams at the same time, just focus on one beam at a time and its still tricky, but just try to get one beam on one of the cricles of the ceiling, then press the button to rotate one of the ceiling rings, so eventually you'll get one of the beams pointed at one of the right spots and once the first ceiling ring is locked in, then the rest is easy.

You know, I got a little frustrated with the Oculory too until I just unloaded with both my frost and flame spells at the same time at the lense. I finally managed to get the light rays to align when I did that.

I had problems with this quest too. My problem was that I was using too powerful of spells. Equip the Novice level Ice spell you can find in the room with it, and use it three times. It should line up perfectly then.

Try reloading a save from where you first enter the Oculary and cast a novice level ice spell at it 3 times. If you go on YouTube, there are some good videos showing you how to do it.

Have you tried casting the novice flame & ice spells from a location in the room other than right by the buttons? I had to relocate onto the little ledge that approaches the Crystal...then it worked.

It's not that I have a problem aiming the rays, it's that I don't see any rays at all. Someone said it has to be daylight, so I waited until 12 noon. Still no rays. Someone said it had to be nighttime. So I waited again until midnight. Still no rays. Someone said there was a video on YouTube. Watched that, but I've never seen anything even remotely like those rays. Sigh.

P.S. I checked to make sure I had the latest drivers. I used the lowest level flam and ice spells. I stood right under the crystal, and I stood by the buttons. I tried reloading the game. I tried rebooting my machine. I crossed all of my fingers. No rays. Sigh.
