The official silence

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 11:18 pm

I realise it's Christmas/New Years, the time of holidays etc... but feeling a bit ripped by the lack of information on the future intention for RAGE. It's the only idsoftware game I know that has basically been dropped after release and it's slightly disappointing given their history of post support which was a big selling point for me.

I love the game but I'd like more, especially on mod tools and future DLC. Has RAGE been dropped or can we expect greater things?

Rage has not been dropped. Id is waiting for ATI to make stable drivers that they can test the 2nd patch with. I don't think we will see any DLC of 64 bit editor until after both ati's drivers, and then the 2nd grafics patch are released.

Id has realy dropped the ball when it come to comunication with their custumers. Most of the information regarding the 2nd patch has come from 3rd party websites and twitter. If any one from id software is lisieting plaese keep us updated on this forum!

You see...I don't buy this arguement about waiting for ATI stuff. They would have come out with a patch to handle everything else since 1). most sales are on consoles and 2) only a small amount of people on the pc are still having driver issues. Its like saying that a plane lands at an airport and a wheelchair person is on board but the gangplank to the gate is not wide enough to accomodate the wheelchair so no one is allowed off the plane until the gangplank is changed....they would let everyone else off then accomodate the wheelchair.

Stop making lame excuses.....let ID make their own explainations about this. They are big boys and not virgin to video game making.

The problem is that if they did come out with a patch that fixed everything else, and if ATI/AMD were still broken after it, the situation would be even worse. "id released a patch that was supposed to fix everything but it fixed nothing, they've dropped the ball, sold out PC gaming, only care about consoles and I'm never buying any of their games ever again", or "f--k id, they should have waited until ATI/AMD were working before releasing this patch, what's the use in releasing a patch if it still doesn't work" - yes, that's what would happen, and unfortunately the AMD/ATI situation has put them in a position where whatever they do they can't win, and we, the customers, are the ones who suffer.

Look back over the history of people claiming that the game wasn't tested on AMD/ATI (despite ample evidence that it was) and of people trying to shift the blame onto id (despite AMD/ATI accepting responsibility) if you don't believe this.

(And even if id put in a readme that the patch isn't supposed to fix everything - well who on earth reads "readme" files anyway? There's also the prior history of id saying "X" and people reading it as them saying "Y" (or "X + 1") to consider here.)

Ultimately what they're doing is the right thing - making sure that the basic stuff is solid first before bolting on the fancy bits. And yes, there is basic stuff that's not video driver-related that also needs to be solidified, but there's not much point in doing that until people are at least able to play the game in the first place.

The basic idea of a Forum is to browse already existing threads before starting a new topic.
Do we really need a new "silence, no information, ..." thread every other day?

Patches and mod tools are coming. That is confirmed

Apart from the snarky remark which I'll ignore, care to link to your recent sources with something detailed?

The latest word that we have is that they're still coming. It doesn't matter how recent, it's still the latest word. Nothing official has been said anywhere to contradict that, so there.s no need to come over all negative waves about them (unless that is what one wants to do, in which case it's one's own problem).

No, I'm making the point that it doesn't matter that there hasn't been any update on this for a while. That there is no need to worry. That absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Aside from that, if you have a look at http://twitter.com/#!/RAGEgame you'll find that the "official silence" has been "officially silent" since the long-lost prehistoric era of December 27th 2011, at which point we were informed "should have news on the level editor for the PC version sometime early in the new year". That's, like, only 4 or 5 days.

So again - there is no need for negative waves unless that's what somebody actually wants to do.

I'm almost sorry I used italic now.

It's hardly an offical statement of the developers future intention for the game, it's a beth community manager saying they 'should' have some news on the mod tools early in 2012. Why do you think there is so much misunderstanding, personal interpretation in this forum? It's because there has been NOTHING concrete released since the games launch, we have had a couple of vague mentions with no specifics and that has been it.

Have you ever dealt with idsoftware before? They are/were the kings of post support and keeping their communities well informed.

Gamestop/EB games here in Sweden sell Rage Anarchy edition for $8.. don't belive me? Check here and go to the last page: http://www.gamestop.se/catalogue/sale2011/

So i guess they dropped this game faster than expected.

Pathetic...simply pathetic.

First perhaps they should have put something up on IDs mainpage instead of just twitter...but you know...people are whiny ingrates if they don't go down the back alley down two flights of stars into the unlite back room and move the rock to see the note that has all the info as plain as the nose on ones face.

Second...looking at the info there is no actual info on the tool just that sometime in the next few months they should say something about it or talk about talking about it. The biggest problem is that people say they love the game but defending such sloppy behavior hurts the game. The faster they get the mod tools out the better. Some people look forward to modding and getting mods to enhance the game and give it replayability. Just because you don't give a fig about mods doesn't mean its not important.
