am I the only one who seems always to have buckets of money?

As others have pointed out, money is a byproduct of having fun in Skyrim, it's quite easy to rake in the septims without every picking up anything weighing more than a potion. Honestly, my economic OCD is having bizzarre effects, because not only do I have 200,000 septims, but I also have hundreds of daggers of banishing/absorb health in a cupboard in Breezehome, just waiting for me to pull out and sell.

Really, at some point the gating factor for making money won't be your ability to produce things of value, but your ability to sell those things to vendors.

So true. That's why I try not stock piling things. When weapons values are over 1000 septims, it takes a long time and alot of travelling to sell it all after. Even with fences.

Well I just did Diplomatic Immunity quest (finally). So, Delphine is holding onto my gold. I do tthe quest, then Meridia's quest since it was nearby, headed back to Solitude and got a quest to clear out Wolfskull cave. I have over 5000 gold, plus a mountain of loot like Elven armor/weapons, gems, jewelry, some enchanted weapons. All that from a few quests. I'm swimming in loot.

I've got 135,000 gold at lvl 48, not counting all the stuff I could sell if I wanted to spend an entire two evenings just selling crap like suits of armor, shields, weapons, etc, that I'll never use because the Skyforge Steel Sword is still one of the best weapons in the game. Oh, let's not forget gems and jewelry. I could crash the entire Skyrim economy.

I normally don't pick everything up nor I use skill exploits to make money.

On my Redguard I did pick up the habit of looting EVERYTHING and I ended up with 25,000 gold in just 8 hours. But otherwise I am poor and the little money I have are spent on soul gems and training.

I'm trying to spend it all on training, but I can never remember what to train with whom. That'll svck a lot of septims out of my purse. Otherwise, I almost never buy any armor or weapons. I like finding the good stuff, or crafting it.

And yes, I'll leave no stone unturned in dungeons. That's one way to "urn" a living!

dont sell selfmade potions and self enchanted items. And the economy will not break. At least it isnt so far on my lvl40 char, the most gold i had is 10k, and that after selling reallllly good loot, spent it immediately to get some nice items, back to 2000, hehe.

For every post out here where folks are like "omg, how do I get more money?" there's someone else out here who posts that they have my playing experience and have tons of gold and nothing left to spend it on.

I'm with you OP. I have more cash than I can spend stashed away in my house in Riften, and my house in Solitude. I'm about to go outright buy & upgrade Breezehome just so I can have a waypoint in the middle of the province.

My character only carries around 20,000 on him at any one time (for emergencies... ;)), but I've got almost 500k gold stashed between those two houses. I just can't spend it fast enough (maybe it helps that I refuse toi use trainers...).

When I loot bodies or chests, I keep what I can use (but only the equipment and weapons that are better than what I currently have) and I sell everything else. After roaming to several cities to make sure I've squeezed every Septim I can out of the merchants, I'll deposit all but 20,000 into the chests at whichever house I am closest to.

This is how I became ridiculously wealthy. If I keep gaining money at this rate, I may just have to go and reverse pickpocket 10k gold onto one of the beggars. Maybe the game will allow him/her to turn their fortunes around? Doubt it. I'll probably just keep saving it and eventually have more money than the Gods...

Last night the vendor with the golden claw in Riverwood had $11000 cash. Maybe that was a one time glitch but he might be a good one to check occasionally. My thieves guild fences have $4000.

For every post out here where folks are like "omg, how do I get more money?" there's someone else out here who posts that they have my playing experience and have tons of gold and nothing left to spend it on.

I'd like to get feedback on both sides.

Are you the sort of player who is always broke? For whom there is just never enough gold to get you the next greatest or coolest thing and who has to always pay attention to every earning opportunity for just a few more septims?

Hopefully this thread is for you.

If you're the sort of player who always has piles and bags and chests of gold, how are you doing this?

What advice can you give to the players, and believe me they're out there in vast numbers, who cannot seem to keep a few hundred septims together long enough even to buy a house?

I'll be honest and tell you I've given this answer a bunch of times in those threads about not being able to make money.

I go to dungeons and I loot it all, and by all, I do mean checking every wall that looks like it might move, looting every urn every sleeping draugr every nook and cranny of shelf, table, bowl and floor space scoured for loose gems, gold and fun things to sell. I prioritize this, too... even from the start I do not pick up blades that are heavy or heavy armor that is too heavy when it's just not space and gold effective. I pay attention to gold, gems and lightweight items (heck... 1 conjurer's robe weighs 1 and sells for 120g and the heavy armor that weighs 30 is only gonna sell for 60g.)

I don't buy anything I don't have to buy. I go get it. If I want to level my enchanting and don't have any soul gems then I hit up a Dwemer ruin and I loot it all. If I need new armor and I'm not a smith, I go and target locations with things to kill that will have my armor type. If I'm a smith then I go mining.

I don't focus on any profession I'm not going to use. I've found that alchemy is really less effective for me because I loot everything anyway, so I come up with tons of potions. Alchemy is a great way to make cash and until you've spent enough perks in it I found it not to be as useful to me as just a way to make cash. Enchanting always helps me and always makes me cash, and I've found the same is true of blacksmithing, though I don't spend perks in it.

The maximum gold on any one character at any time was my level 50 Spellsword, and she had over 200,000 before I started going and getting her houses. She retired with over 110,000 still on her. I have a level 24 who is right on her heels with 140,000 already and two houses.

Making money in this game isn't my problem... it's finding ways to spend it. I tried once to get Silda to pick up some extra cash and she did, but at one gold at a time on the ground... yeah... it's a pain. Next time I think I'll reverse pickpocket her.

How do you do it? What do you do to have mountains of cash in Tamriel?

I've got gobs of toons, and more than gobs of gold. There's not much really to spend it on in this game - houses and horses.... I craft my own gear (leather from kills, ore from mining, gems from mining and dungeons) so no need to buy any of it.... My first toon (the only one who did the MQ) "retired" with 400k gold. Sitting in a chest. Nothing to use it for. Owned all the houses. *shrug*

Mostly, I just drop whatever even amount of gold makes sense in a chest in whatever's my "drop point" house. 4k now, 10k next time. It adds up really fast. I do buy grand soul gems - much easier. That's about it....

Compared to previous TES games, this one's REALLY "loose money"....
