The 1.1.1 Patch

Anyone seen how this runs the game yet?

Hopefully the 'fix severe directx issues' will have corrected a lot of sins.....

I like having the map markers for my companions. I found two lost companions with them.

I am using a mod that lets me use all the companions at once. It is interesting having all the companion perks at once, but they seem to like to get lost when you tell them to wait.

I can't say if the game runs better since I haven't noticed anything else yet.

One thing I was pleasantly surprised at was that when you go to craft, things you have the materials for and can make are sorted to the top of the list.

Until today, I had the "many NPC in picture" frame stuttering problem.
I went into the Atomic Wrangler not long ago (which for me was one of the worst areas), and I had no framerate issues at all. :celebration:

(Some of the Bark Radscorpions at Hidden Valley have suddenly become unkillable, though.....hmmmm....)

It introduced at least one bug for me. The evil Brahmin at the Mole Rat Ranch, along with at least 3 of the Mole Rats are now marked essential. So whenever I get within range of the place, I see "Mole rat is unconscious", over and over and over again. I tried to kill the brahmin just to get the messages to stop, and that's how I discovered he's essential now too.

One bug that probably has nothing to do with the patch though is I just completed Veronica's quest and now she won't follow me anymore (I told her to stay with the brotherhood). Just stands there. But at least she is with me when I fast travel I guess.... I think that part is due to the update since they mentioned companions always fast traveling now unless told to wait.

Interesting business about Veronica...luckilly I saved before that issue arose. It doesn't end well if it doesn't go well...I'm leaving that one towards the later game now.

I'm about to hit the game, but I got a lot of new bugs on my game last night, which really stunned me...game kept stuttering and crashing after fast travelling to a couple of places.

Seems like this patch is causing more issues than it fixed: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1139429-cowboy-repeater-freezing/

Does it fix the steam requirement? I bought mine retail (DVD version, not steam version) and it said I still had to connect. Have they included a fix for that in this patch? I've already returned the game for a full refund. I'll buy it again whenever they fix the patch (which makes the game useless). I've seen fixes for this online, but I am waiting for an official patch for it before I buy the game again (to make sure it won't cause other issues).

It won't be 'fixed' because the game is tied to steamplay.

That's a cop-out they try to tell us. It is easy to change, and they can change it at any time. They had to work that into the system in some way, regardless of what they or anyone else tries to tell you. They fix exists, but it's just unreleased (well, officially, anyway. it has been released unofficially for a while now, but I only want to use official patches.)

So, I'm just waiting for them to release the official fix. There are posts all over the place where people are running into unfixable bugs with steam, and they can only be solved by removing the steam requirement. People paid for buggy software that only works part of the time. People are getting pissed at this (even those who originally agreed with the requirement). Eventually bethesda will realize their folly and release the fix. It has happened before (though not with bethesda yet, as far as I know, but that's probably because they haven't used it much yet).

What kind of 'unfixable' bug you are talking about. Care to share some links to these unfixable bugs?

^ That, I am playing the Steam digital download version and haven't had any bugs at all, let alone unfixable ones.

I think the 'unfixable' bug he refers to is the Steam client itself.

Well, for example, any issues having to do with lost connection to STEAM. Servers down? Servers Busy? Servers slow? Internet connection down (Stormy weather, power outtage, blah, blah) These bugs simply cannot be fixed. If connection is lost or otherwise unavailable, then you're SOL. These type bugs are very common, simply search this section, or others. They are everywhere. But basically, reduced functionality that is in every way unnecessary, but they included them none-the-less. I, as a consumer who values his rights, simply refuse to pay for software that has reduced functionality purposely built into it, especially when it can function perfectly well without it. (I'll be bleeped if I'm going to pay for a program that has less functionality than what pirates are allowed to have).

Last time I checked. Steam offline mode work perfectly on my system.

^^^ Just to clarify, that doesn't negate anything I said. Everything I said is still true. You simply tried a Straw Man (a type of logical fallacy).

I'm not going to spell it out for you. You (and everyone else, for that matter) understand the situation perfectly well.

That being said, why make the logical fallacy? A lie to protect someone who is taking away your rights and insulting you? Do you not see it?

What does the stability of internet have anything to do with a single player game?

heh...The days of buying games on removable media (CD/DVD/Blue-Ray) are coming to an end. The PC market is currently blazing this trail for the Console market in the future.

I like my discs, but I'm not dead-set against that either. I could go to a library and download one without much problem. The issue I have is with intrusive DRM software and all of its drawbacks (which have been covered extensively). The downloadable game concept is a magnificent idea, and works very well (Pirates have been using it since... ever). Take out online activation and such requirements (like locked downloads of patches, dead-man switches, and whatnot) and I'll gladly join the fun.
