The Problems with Vegas – My opinion

Hi all,

After playing New Vegas and mostly enjoying it, here are my views on what could make it better.

THE FREEZING – I’ve had about forty freezes so far and it’s really disappointing. Vegas itself, Camp Forlone Hope and The Thorn have all been places where the game stalls frequently. In the case of Vegas, it’s supposed to be the main attraction, but I stay clear because of the freezing. I hate to say it, but the freezing is what stops this game from achieving true greatness in my opinion.

Also, the loading time screens you have to get through to get into Vegas make Vegas very boring at times. A marker should perhaps be placed outside the Lucky 38 – or even better, you should be able to beam directly into it to avoid constant load screens.

BANNED – Getting banned is a good idea in that it stops you getting too much money, but once you’re banned you don’t have much else to do in the casinos and it can get a little dull.

MUSIC – A few more tracks need to be edited in, because I keep on hearing the same ones over and over in a relatively short period of time. Also, I wish I could kill Mr New Vegas. Bring back Margaret. She’s the best DJ. She didn’t say much, but she was funnier than Mr New Vegas and Three Dog.

TRAITS - Please add more. There's not enough in New Vegas. A few more should be added to help with roleplaying.

WILD WASTELAND - Not enough encounters. I want more wackiness considering I picked the perk.

INVISIBLE WALLS – I became incredibly frustrated when I went to go over a seemingly climbable mountain only to find there was an invisible wall there. At times I felt like I was being pushed to go in a certain way by the developers. I don’t mind not being able to climb over something, but at least make it look like my character can’t get over it. When there’s a small boulder that my character in F3 could have easily jumped over it’s very annoying.

HACKING – Every time I hack into a computer all this text comes up and I can’t get rid of it. I seem to remember it didn’t take as long to hack into a computer in F3. It’s a small issue, but still annoying.

HOUSES – The houses are pretty good in Vegas – but an armour stand and weapon rack would be a cool addition somewhere. I love looking at my weapons in my houses when I don’t use them. Although it’s not as cool as a weapon rack, my house table in Megaton was full of weapons.
Also, where’s Wadsworth or someone like him? A Butler in the 38 should tell you jokes and you should be able to order room service from him. The House Themes from Fallout 3 were cool and should be implemented. You could also buy paintings from Michelangelo for your houses wall. I’m getting paintings for my safe house in ACB and it’s cool.

MORE GAMES AND QUESTS – Perhaps a couple of more quests and games could be put into the strip. Wheel of Fortune wouldn’t be too hard to put in would it? – and there could be a unique weapon or other prize you could get if you win.

EXCLUSIVE DLC FOR XBOX – I won’t add much to this argument, but PS3 and PC users don’t deserve to be treated like this. We are just as passionate about Fallout and yet get penalized for not having an Xbox. I know the DLC will probably come to us later, but we are still being put second and a lot of people should feel betrayed by that.

RANDOM ENCOUNTERS – I wish there were more cool random encounters in FONV. In F3 you could come across all sorts of interesting things like people fighting over a water supply or Mel the incompetent mugger. There was also that poor wastelander I tried to save when Raiders attached a bomb to him for kicks. In the DLC, it could be quite easy to add a whole lot of these to help make the Mojave a more vibrant place.

JOIN NCR or CESAR’S LEGION – I was kind of annoyed I couldn’t join NCR after I’d helped them out so much, so I hope I can join them in the DLC. Also, I couldn’t get the cool armour the rangers wear unless I killed one of them. I was a good guy, so I didn’t do that. Someone in NCR should sell you this gear if you are on good terms with them and have joined.

So in conclusion, I think Vegas is a great game, but could be even better if these things were implemented. What do you think?

So in conclusion, I think Vegas is a great game, but could be even better if these things were implemented. What do you think?

1. Freezing can be a problem to some folks. Some others have had better results. But since I was an avid FO3 player I will add that I barely had any software related freezes in Fallout 3 compared to New Vegas. Yes it sports a few more freezes, so save often. But I don't feel like it takes away from the game in whole.

2. What loading times? If your on a console your out of luck, but if you have at least a core 2 duo with a 9800gt or equivalent graphics card you shouldn't be experiencing longer then 5 second loading times. But if your complaining about loading times while on a console, it's not the games fault but the console design fault. The game developers have to modify their game to work around a consoles settings. Which is by the way, a mediocre gaming pc compared to the technology available today. So you can't really complain to us there.

3. I think getting banned is a good idea. Do you know how easy it is to multiply your earnings in this game? All you need to do is reload a previous save if you lose. Not fair to the house. Besides it takes a long time to get to that level, and if you're getting close, you can simply force yourself to lose or some kind of console command to reduce the earnings. It's not intrusive, but preferred.

4. Music? Yeah I agree with you there. I grew tired of the music pretty quickly and wasn't as interested in it as the music in fallout 3 which I grew to love.

5. Not sure how many more traits you want, but the engine can only handle so much before it takes on too many multiplying/addition variables into each equation of commands. I feel like the traits are fine. Perhaps you can elaborate on what traits are obviously missing? I may understand and agree.

6. To be honest, the wild wasteland perk was ment to perk up some situations. Personally, like yourself I also feel like there wasn't enough random situations in the Mojave wastelands. It doesn't feel like enough random situations was put onto work. I think because of the deadline, and focusing more on the storyline. I still miss those random situations. Even with the wild wasteland perk the only notable earnings is an encounter of the third kind.

7. Invisible walls...man I can't agree more. Because of that, we're actually missing a lot of the map. The outer perimeter that is. Some claim its larger then fallout 3, but in terms of what you can explore, its shrunk in comparison.

8. Your first attempt in hacking is quick, followed by a penalized form of hacking where you have to go through the slow text. It stops password spammers and makes people think when hacking, which is what people are supposed to do. However I feel like the hacking program is broken. I don't always get correct responses when it tells me which is correct out of how many letters. Which kind of ruins the point of trying to figure it out.

9. Houses isn't as developed as in fallout 3, but you do get more houses you can use in comparison to only having one owned house in fallout 3. I as well do wish they added more upgradable options in fallout new vegas besides random storage containers you can buy in Lucky 38.

10. The quests are fine the way they are. You just have to find them. However, I do wish there were more little side quests you can do such as in fallout 3 where you can get supermutant blood samples where it fueled your own personal quest to eradicate all super mutants.

11. DlC exclusivity is pretty bad for business. I don't know any PS3 or PC gamer who is happy about this. Removing 2/3 of your fan base (aka who will buy the dlc) is not a smart solution. However, I do hope they counter this buy discounting the dlc with patch work to the rest of us.

12. I already elaborated on random encounters.

13. Yeah you can only really join two major factions. But you do have to remember these two major factions are the major factions in the game that will produce a noticable end result. Either CL will take over or NCR will since they are both large in comparison to other factions. Personally, I always thought the NCR had the capacity to take over CL but didn't have the balls to do it. I guess this is where you step in.

As far as the freezing is concerned..... wow...... lol..... You must play the game a whole lot or a lot at a time because it has only freezed probably 5 times on me over the course of 90hrs playing.

The loading screens I believe are because of the outdated engine they use. The areas aren't "connected" like in say, GTA IV. That's a example of a game with pretty much no loading screens because the areas are "connected" as one.

I have over 4million caps because of the primm casino glitch and don't really go in them unless for a mission.

For the average fan of Fallout, almost no amount of songs can be put in to not seem to hear them over and over lol since most people tend to play it for hours on end.

I fell through a floor in a cave inside vault 22, pissed me off because the last time I saved it was 1&1/2hrs previous lol.

The random encounters in 3 were kinda nice though.

No matter how many quest you add to a game, you are eventually going to reach the end of them and wish they had more of them lol.

And that's all I'm going to comment on because one other thing I don't like about fallout is when my game is paused lol....

I am actually interested in the comparable number of posters over the same length of time between F3's release and FNV's.

This forum seems to have gone very quiet very quickly, compared to what I recall of the F3 release. If that's not an indicator of issues with the game, I don't know what is...

Freezing may not be a problem for you guys or pcs in general but me I'm am a ps3 user and i can't play more than 30 minutes without it freezing.
and it isn't really the freezing that upsets me i do save often it the fact that i cant enjoy the game. every time it freezes i have to get up walk to my console and turn it off(you can't turn it off from the controller). after that i have to wait a minute for it to shutdown and then come back on then i have to wait for it to load up and let me pick the game whick takes abit then I have to get through all the title menu crap to get back to it just to be frozen in the next 15 to 20 minutes. I can never get into my fallout mood if this keeps happening...... :sadvaultboy: obsidain said they would fix this and yet nothing i payed my good old 80$ for the collectors edition i love my fallout but i no longer love obsidain it's not cool :nope:

The freezing is the worst, but hopefully the new patch will fix it.

Maybe people have experience with FO3 so now they have less problem with NV?

The invisible walls are my pet peeve - the random encounters are very missed too, but the walls really make me envy PC users that can mod them out :P I haven't had any freezing, touch wood.

Pretty much agree with all your list. I feel like this game needs another year or so to of been made to what it really should of been.
