The reasons for not playing certain races

Post » Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:25 am

In Morrowind I loved playing a dunmer, mostly because of the story, but also liked playing a redguard, imperial and a nord (my all-time favourite).

In Oblivion, the following image pretty much sums up my thoughts about my sudden abhorrence towards playing a dunmer:
http://theelderscrollsskyrim.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Oblivion-Dunmer.png
I mean seriously, a receding hairline is what I always remember about them, then those slightly red hangover eyes, shiny porcelain skin and puffy cheekbones. [censored] did I pass playing elves in that game. Nords and imperials were ok, but despite how much I tried to get them look handsome and intimidating they always had that awkward overbite and my nord's body would turn purple for some reason.

Then Skyrim came and finally let me make a musclebound bald white-eyed mean-looking mofo dunmer again. I was like YES my head looks small compared to the rest of the body but at least I'm the [censored] devil here. So when I finally get to run around like a headless chicken amidst the Alduin-brought havoc, and about to wreak some of my own, my dark elf gets nicked by a stormcloak's axe and for the first time I hear how he sounds; it's that [censored] female-sounding elf voice from Oblivion which I so much have learnt to despise. I immediately hit esc and loaded up my nord save.

You guys and gals have any similiar experiences?

Bretons Males have the most girly sound when wounded, but I still play them. I just make sure they don't get hit.

Really, other than some voice issues, there is no reason to play one race over another, or to avoid a race in this game. It all comes down to Aesthetics and Role as to the choice.

So far I've played all races for a relatively longer time in Skyrim save for Imperial, Redguard and Orc. Nothing to do with appearance, just chance, and the character ideas I got.
Although in Oblivion I was trying hard to recreate my main Morrowind character, and failed. He looked so puffy, like he didn't age well at all. So, I avoided male Dunmer, too. Khajiit and Argonians in Oblivion were never my thing either, since they have a kind of limited skin color spectrum and strange faces (at least the ones I made).

Numans, has leveled one to level 44 in real life, see no need to repeat it.
Orc are cool but to ugly, Argonians make Orcs look real sixy.
My traditional favorites is elves but has not been able to make any who don't look better with an full helmet in Skyrim so it has been Khajiits for me so far.

The reasons for not
playing certain races
is my mood, really.
I played all the races by playing with their own roles. But never avoid to plays a certain race, really.

I must add that I WILL make and play a dunmer in Skyrim because that awesome grotesque heavy chaurus armor in Dawnguard is made for an evil elf character!

The reasons for not playing certain races.

Nords or Imperials - Boring. I am a "nord" in real life so to me, its boring. Well, unless I make it a really hot and sixy nord woman.

Khajiit - Worst. I hate cats. Really hate cats. Hate Khajiit's voices. Hate their lore. Hate their stupid cat faces. Hate cats. Hate Khajiit. Im putting it lightly. Hate anything cat related. Except for Tiger style and Leapard style kung fu.

Argonian - Again BOOORRRRIIIINNNNGGGG! Nothing about Argonians I find even remotely interesting. Seems most people are this way unless they create an "Assassin" or "Sneak" character.

Everyone else is fair game. But these above, NO WAY. Unless I can make it a hot hot hot and sixy Imperial/Nord woman dressed in cool attire. Other than that, I can do without the beast races in Skyrim/Elder Scrolls.

Uniquely-named, spear-wielding quasi-reptilians deeply connected to magical ancient trees from a land of giant marsh insects are totally dull and uninspired.

Na, in most cases a d10 roll decides my characters race.

Yep. I havent seen one wielding a spear. Havent seen ANYONE wielding a spear.

Argonians seem popular only with the folks who want to create sneak, theif or assassin builds.

Ive played as every race but I play some more than others. the following are the ones I play less of and why:

Khajiit/Argonian= Id play more as these but the tails look really rigid and that lack of fluidity is why I dont.
Bosmer= Not a fan of their faces and shortness
Altmer= I hate the arrogance that most of them have, have played a few character but nothing like my Dunmer.
Redguard= Dunno really, maybe I dont want to fill the white boy pretenting to be black stereotpye.

For what ever reason it is, I just can't get into playing Orcs. Same with Nords. I mostly play Bretons in all the games. Morrowind was the only TES game where I played Dark Elf.

Until I found a mod that addressed it, I wouldn't play an Altmer because the first person camera was too low to reflect their proper height. It was like their eyes were in their chests.

Tried playing a khajiit once, but for some reason it just didn't feel right. Strange, since they are one of my favorite NPC races.
