The Silence is Deafening

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:10 pm

I just started playing Skyrim (amazing game and not something I initially thought I'd like, but love it!) and noticed that Bethesda has been keeping people informed every step of the way with what the updates address, what they are working on now and what to expect next, that they are reading the forums for issues, asking for feedback, etc.

But id has not made one comment since 7Oct about the initial PC issues (there are a few comments on Twitter, but nothing that amounts to anything). It seems very odd to me that they have been completely silent and not even acknowledged that the game is out, people are asking about DLC, having issues, etc.

I enjoyed Rage, but the missions weren't satisfying enough. I’m not sure what it was, but it seemed like just as they got going and more intense, they were over and it seemed way too easy. I’ll hold on to it (it’s worth nothing in trade value) and will hope for DLC at some point, but after 60 days of zero response from id, I'm not expecting much. Thoughts?

We (the community of Skyrim) had to beg for 2 weeks (some people even talked about a class action lawsuit for false advertisemant) before we got a response from Bethesda. I don't know how that equals, "keeping people informed every step of the way".

What it equals is "I loved it and had no serious problems".

If you want an endless stream of misleading statements and outright lies I suggest buying EA games. If silence bothers you I suggest playing some music and if waiting bothers you I suggest taking up meditation.

Rage left me with the same feeling as Fable 3 did. Really love the game whilst I was playing it. Got pulled right into the main story line and then it was like.... Where did it go?... I want more!!

With Skyrim and similar games made by that massive team, the games are so massive that you play them for hours and hours and can always go back many months down the line.

I think with those games there is also offer a good choice in unique character designing which enables those that really liked the game to make multiple different characters and play again (such as a heavy armored axe wielding orc barbarian compared to a light armored thieving wood elf archer compared to or a robe wearing Breton druid magician)

Not really deafening. The first patch came on the 10th (after the date the OP noted) and the word from Carmack is "we are still waiting for AMD to stabilize their release drivers so we can test our patch against them" (Nov 17th, which is definitely something that amounts to something).

At this stage it's pretty definitive that the initial problems for AMD users were driver related and very few would claim otherwise. Until such a time as a full release driver that resolves these emerges (and no, 11.11c isn't a full driver release), it doesn't seem appropriate to me to make any kind of announcement or promise.

Still, I wish they would offer some communication.
The whole silent routine isn't the best PR approach.
Communication with your fan base is important.
And there are many who really love RAGE, despite a vocal element of hate mongers.
