The Skeleton Key oh what to do with you...

Post » Thu Jul 12, 2012 2:45 pm

I've held onto the skeleton key selfishly for a while now because I love being able to unlock any lock I want without breaking any lockpicks, so now I'm starting to wonder if maybe i should finish the quest and return it. So what did you do? Did you return it immediatley or are you still holding on to it like me? And also what do you think I should do with it, should i return it or keep using it, lord knows I've accumulated 200+ lockpicks.

Kill it with fire! :flamethrower:

But seriously, lock picking isn't that hard in this game. And if you have over 200 lockpicks, you shouldn't worry about them breaking anymore. They're always cheap to buy as well.

Depends on how high you are in lockpicking. If you're high in the skill, or you want to become leader of the TG, you should return it

I have never had trouble picking locks. So I returned it. Although, I did like using the key to pick locks on the way to returning it.

You can take the "unbreakable" perk once you master lock picking. It gives you the same effect as the skeleton key.

That's a valuable perk point lost.

Pff, only 200? I just broke 600 lockpicks on my character who is now level 40 and never even touched the Skeleton Key. But yes, if you have over 200 lockpicks as someone stated you shouldn't need to worry about breaking them.

Holding onto the Skeleton Key actually makes some thief-type abilities more difficult due to the fact you were actively preventing the "Luck" from returning. Did they take that out? I don't see it on the Wiki anymore.

[Edit]: After some googling, I can't find any evidence of said penalties existing in the first place. Did I dream that up?!

Regardless of storyline, I don't like the idea of returning a daedric artifact. Its madness. Daedric artifact are rewards. I'm keeping it as long as I can.

I generally use a "set" of skills as my character's path and once those are all leveled to 100, I don't really know what else to do with myself. I don't see myself suddenly wanting to master Heavy Armor as a thief, or Illusion as a two-handed barbarian warrior.

From what I've gathered, the usual cut-off point for most people seems to be around 30-50.

That is the story line of TG. But I think there is no real penalty at all to the gameplay

Oh. Thought you said there were only 60 perks in the game. About to say, just got to level 60 and I need one more perk to get 5/5 enchanting.

I could have sworn it made Pickpocketing and Lockpicking harder by a percentage once you got to that point specifically. /head scratch

Not every perk. I do not mod as I am a Xbox player. But I am working on my enchanting right now, because I am trying to enchant this pretty little circlet I found.

Sounds too deep for Bethesda to do that, pretty cool if it is like that though. But I highly doubt it.
