is the stormcloak questline "cannon"?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:56 pm

I'm hoping i'm using this in the right context, the word cannon that is. But does the stormcloak questline make sense with the rest of the story, i mean you can be an Argonian and help nords keep their homeland free of other races... so basicly your fighting to keep your self out of the land... unless i'm not understanding what their fighting for, that does not make allot of sense.

so is that why the stormcloaks are trying to do? no spoilers please, and if so... do you think it's right for other non-nord races to be able to help them?

They definitely want to be free from Dominion rule and would probably be pretty wary of non-humans (especially elves) once they regain control of Skyrim. I've only played the Civil War quest with one character (Orc) and fought for the Empire, so I haven't spent enough time listening to Ulfric and his followers to get their side of matters, though.

Well, you can always be a sensitive and responsible Argonian who looks more for the Nords than for himself. Or just a chronic Imperial hater who likes to screw them wherever they're...

I seriously hope the cannon is Ulfric being put down. Because if not I see the next TES game being about defeating the Thalmor empire that controls everything. Also don't want to see a warp in the west cop out on this one please! :P

The Stormcloaks are first and foremost fighting to secced from the Empire. Racial politics are sadly mixed in because it is Nord land and they want to rule it themselves, but in the end by joining the Sorncloaks you do not fight to throw other races out. Ulfric is obviously pro-nord, but he isn't an extreme racist who wants to throw out or kill the other races. He is a nationalist.

And back then the empire... or was it the stormcloaks managed to take over from the... or was it remain in power, ah I forget...

I don't know how they could magically explain it :|

Easy way is to have the empire collapse.

The dragonborn along with an army(Who can say what side it was) take up the fight against the thalmor and the basis for a new empire is formed.

There is no canon in Elder Scrolls, other than the MQ gets done. You can make a case for one side or the other in the civil war being the most fitting with the MQ, but ultimately it's yours to choose.

I expect the next game will take place quite a way in the future, and will refer to an event that happens after the time scale of Skyrim which determines who lives there and why. Like they did with Morrowind.

They are fighting for the independence of Skyrim. Their purpose is not to drive every non-Nord out of their territory but they are trying to get the right to rule their own homeland. Stormcloak ideology is that Nordic customs, traditions, laws and ways should be the way how things are done in Skyrim. That doesn't mean that all other ways aren't allowed - this means only that they doesn't accept any other major laws and rules which are hurting their way of living.
