The Syndicate Reboot Is Real, First Details Leak Out of EA

Post » Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:49 am

While the original Syndicate was a real-time tactical game played from an isometric view, the new Syndicate is—unsurprisingly—a "visceral first-person shooter experience," according to the game's description. Set in the year 2069, Syndicate is set in a world "no longer governed by politicians," but "divided up into regions controlled by megacorporations known as Syndicates."

"These Syndicates have revolutionized how the consumer interacts with the digital world," reads the game description. "No longer does the consumer require a device to access the world's data and control their technology, they can do this at the blink of an eye via neural chip implant."

Business has become war in Syndicate, with "bio-engineered and chip-augmented enforcers" at the front line. Players will assume the role of Miles Kilo, an Agent of the Syndicate Eurocorp.

? Chip Enhanced Gameplay: Slow down time, see through walls, and breach your enemy and everything digital in the world with Dart vision – A neural DART6 chip implant that allows you to interface directly with the Dataverse.

? 4-Player Online Co-op: Assemble your Syndicate for global domination. A 4-player, online co-op experience like no other, with chip enhanced gameplay and 9 missions re-imagined from the original Syndicate.

? Visceral FPS Experience: Utilize an upgradable arsenal of futuristic weapons, armor and gear to annihilate your enemies and harvest their chip technology for personal advancement and sinister corporate greed.

? Sci-Fi Fiction: Immerse yourself in the world of Syndicate 2069, with a world-class sci-fi story experience, written by bestselling author Richard Morgan.

Maybe once the popular genre finally shifts to something else they'll be rebooting all of these FPS as other games? :P

Lost me at EA. Obviously any Bullfrog IP would be an EA thing, but EA isn't getting any of my money. And it being a FPS is terrible as well.

COD: Isometric Farming Sim.

In news out of Russia, Bogus Software in Moscow has announced their upcoming game, a reboot of Tetris as an FPS. Spokesperson Sortovting Imgetingsickov said in an exclusive interview "We know gamers of all ages loved Tetris in the 90's, and we know they're just going to love our modern spin on the title".

I for one can't wait to try the "4 blocks across" gun.

Oh dear. EA just recently filed new copyrights/trademarks on Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, too...um, you all will help me come up with an alibi if they should happen to reboot SMAC as an FPS and then their studios get mysteriously burned to the ground, right? Right? :P

Personally, I can't wait for Call of Centauri: Alien Warfare and it's sequel, Psi Ops :P
But seriously, if this trend continues it's going to be a bad time to be into anything but FPS. We don't exactly have a ton of variety as it is <<

DX was a FPS RPG, DXHR is a FPS RPG, at least it stays true to its formula, kudos to that. I would blame FPS genre in general for all the various non-FPS turn action FPS, actually I blame Modern Warfare.

Oh,bother. I still have the original installed on my computer. I was hoping GOG would get the expansion, but if they're going to reboot the series, that won't be happening.

This is just so full of [censored]. Aren't there enough FPS games already? Are the companies running out of ideas of their own for new FPS games?

First Fallout, then XCOM and now Syndicate. What classic series/game is going to be [censored] next? Alpha Centauri (as someone already suggested)? That's gonna be a sight, I'm sure.

I can't be surprised by news like this anymore. It's become the new standard in both gaming and movies to remake the old and make sure it satiates the average man's desire for instant gratification, regardless of the attention to how accurately it represents the source material.

Doesn't sound too bad, and I'm a huge fan of the original Syndicate. I hope the co-op is well made and fun, and that they haven't forgotten to do a good single player campaign too.

Kinda interesting though, there hasn't really been any cyberpunk games in years and then Gemini Rue, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Hard Reset are released this year and soon there is the Syndicate too. Quite nice :)
