The Treasure chests look like another game....

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:39 am

They look like another game's chests.....large and fancy. This is hardly a game breaker, but why the change? The small lock boxes should be used more too- anything to break the siliness of the Pirates chests.

It's hard to imagine someone seriously 'upgrading' the treasure chests in hopes of capturing more market share.
In combination with the linear one track dungeons they've become a more obvious reward system. I like Oblivions chests- change for the sake of change that accomplished what?

What chests are you talking about? The box ones? The draugr chests that have a rounded top?

The only 'large and fancy' treasure chests I've seen are in the last rooms of dungeons, the rest are small (and not fancy). What other game are you referring to?

There are at least half a dozen distinct chest types that I've seen, from the rounded-top oaken chests of the past, to elaborately ornate chests, to discrete rectangular lockboxes of all sizes.

I've seen a large number of things that remind me of other games.... In the Dwemer ruins I see the grandfather clock looking things from another game where little girls would climb out of and when you killed them you got to harvest a leech looking thing...(vague I know haha) I am thinking Bioshock or something like it but am not sure.

A chest is a chest, there's usually 4 sides, a bottom and a lid. Not many ways to design them

I like how you never provided any prove that the treasure chests look like another game then go on to tell us Oblivion's were better. Op you make no sense.

I like the dwemer chests. they almost look like they're meant to blow off the steam when the machines get too hot, but they're simply chests

After I wrote this I realized I didn't mind the basic wooden chests, it was the large pirate fancy adorned chests- like Fable's, that I thought silly. I know why they did it- someone complained the chests in Oblivion were too small to contain the large weapons.

As I said, a small point. But being rewarded by ornate pirate chests in the deepest dank of a dungeon is not exactly 'reality' based.

I wish they'd used the small lock boxes more frequently- these are realistic, something a bartender, store or bandit would actually use. I like these very much.

There are plenty of different types of chests, usually in relation to the type of dungeon you are in and/or the loot you are likely to find.

Well it could very well be a pirates chest (if I'm not mistaken) and that it's hidden in a once empty dungeon long ago?

I find this post to be a fancy fable of a tale of ornate chests. :)

Most of said "deepest parts of a dungeon" are usually Draugr barrows - the Grand Hall, where the most revered hero is buried with full honors, with gifts for his next life in Sovengarde. Everything's fancy when it comes to honored dead.
