I know they said its an open-world game, but can you just run around and do whatever you want when you beat the story missions? or is it going to be like the new wolfenstein where you have to abort the last mission after you beat it to roam around?

I'm pretty certain that none of us know that answer. You might try asking someone from id on Twitter or shoot them an email.

In one of the interviews, they actually do say that once the story is over, you can go back and complete all side missions and improve stats, etc. Can't remember the video or the person from ID that said this, but I did see this.
