The White Stripes Calls it Quits....

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:03 am

This is one of the "newer" bands I really liked...and besides the fact that they hail from Deeetroit ! (my neighborhood).....
I heard it first on the local news.
Man, they made some good music....

Far from this opera for evermore.
I'm gonna work the straw.
Make the sweat drip out of every pore."

So? Meg White was a crappy drummer, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather are still going, and are much better.

Be that as it may. Jack White is purdy derned talented writer/musician, and I'm sure whatever he lays his hand to, will be successful.

When did they last make music? I haven't heard anything from them in ages. I love 'Fell in love with a girl' (especially the lego video :P) and 'Seven Nation Army'

I was pretty sad about this. In fact, more sad then MJ's death. Which I did not care about one bit :whistling:

That's really too bad, they were my favorite "modern" band too. But I'm sure Jack White will go about doing more musical endeavors.

I was saddened too, but I suppose I'd rather this than have them carry on making music that gets more and more mediocre because their hearts aren't in it anymore.

Well, that was kind of inevitable, given the personal circumstances.

With Jack White doing so many other projects, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.

I thought they quit years ago

Well, they had a good run, released a bunch of fantastic albums too. :)

I'm saddened but like many other people they haven't been doing any stuff lately so it's more like loosing a distant relative that you liked but only met at some family gathering.

That svcks. I really liked them. They had an awesome, unique sound to them. At least The Dead Weather is still around.

It's a shame, that, but I was actually more surprised to hear not too long ago that they were working on a new album, than I am to hear they called it quits. I'm guessin whatever material they worked on during those recent sessions will be released years from now on a "Best Of," or collector's box set of some kind. Still, I am glad that Jack is rockin out, as I consider him one of the greatest guitarists in recent memory.
