The world of Skyrim... is too crowded?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:43 am

Am I the only one who feels that that there is too much stuff in the game? I mean, every 50 meters you get attacked be a creature or you stumble upon a new location. I would like it if I sometimes could walk around for ten minutes without anything spectacular happening, because I'm having some trouble enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Anyone else?

I agree. It's no biggie, but at some places I wish I could walk some more without being interfered by some hostile creature. I do think Fallout 3 was much worse in this regard though, so at least there been an improvement.

Nope, there's a bug with the respawn clock for the consoles, so if you return shortly after the bodies clear up they no longer will respawn. So now after several hours of playing and killing things as I go, the main road is pretty desolate now all around the map, I have to side track into the wilderness in order to find another living thing.

I don't feel that way. Like TES games before it, there is a big world with a lot to do. And I think that is a good thing.

I don't feal like I am getting attacked every 50 meters. But I can understand what you mean getting attacked often. Thing is you have to "scout" the land and know where and where not to go and avoid.

I know it's not a perfect solution, but "way of the voice" or what ever it's called when you read all 10 tablets on your 7000 steps to High Hlothgar. (sorry can't spell)

Biggest problem for me is NPC's flinging quests at you almost non-stop.

Dungeons and monster encounters are nicely balanced though.

Well, remember:
Skyrim is supposed to be quite ancient. There were dwemer, snow elves, and dragon worshippers there before the nords, and the nords conquered the place in the 1st era. Thus, there's thousands of years of history, and consequently a ton of ruins, crypts and such.

Also, remember: time passes much faster in - game. That accelerates the perception of many random encounters during a day out in the wilderness.

Turn off HUD so it's a little harder to notice locations maybe, can't help with creatures though

Yes. The problem isn't that there's too much stuff in the game, it's that it's all squashed into such a small gameworld.

They really should've spread things out more with some generated wilderness.

I wish it took more time and preparation to plan a trip from city a to city b. Horses would have been more useful too. I'm dreaming of a province with the same number of cities (but each of them much bigger) and 2x or even 3x the actual map size. I mean for this number of dungeons and points of interest, the map should be much bigger.

I feel that way.

Not every NPC has to have a task or quest.

Some people think the world is too spares, some think it is too crowded.

There has to be some "compaction" of the world with both locations and characters/enemies. While a long distance between places sounds real and cool and all that, as a game, it can get tedious if you have to go too far to get to anything, or see some action.

I feel it's a mix of both. Too many of the same types of hostiles, and not enough passives. One of my favorite mods for Morrowind was the "Morrowind comes alive" mod, which added things like people travelling from place to place. While that is in skyrim, it's spawned by event, rather than a regular occurance.

Are you serious? I am on PS3 and have never experienced such a thing. That does not sound like a fun bug.

I have to disagree. The outside world is nearly perfect...I wish it it was spread out a bit more, though. I can make it to/from any major city with only a couple of encounters, unless I'm looking for something specific.

I have my compass turned off, and it makes the whole world seem much bigger. have a lot fewer locations found after I started playing this way, as you can't seem ost of them. When I find a cave or crypt, it's actually a cool event instead of heading in the direction of some marker on my map.

I remember in zelda 2, every time you walked off the path monsters spawned. I thought it was pretty annoying. I sometimes feel like this in skyrim. Not often though. However, it'd make a nice mod for the occasional slower paced game.

sometimes when i start a new guy, i feel overwhelmed with the amount of quests thrown at me.

of course you can always refuse them.

your thread title is misleading though bc i think the cities arent crowded enough.

I have just realized that there is not one....not ONE...part about this game that someone somewhere won't find a way to complain about.

Geez.
