Is there any reason why ....

Is there any particular reason why strikes on corpses take priority over strikes on living targets? Often times I find that if there are corpses around in the immediate area that I'm fighting, I'll strike at a living target but the target won't receive damage because you can only hit one target with a strike and the corpse somehow takes priority and is the one to receive the hit.

(On a related note, is there a fix for this on the PC?)

I have never had that problem so I dont know. You should try to move away from the corpse. That might help.

O.o ... Well, yes, obviously that would "help" by avoiding/ignoring the issue but that's not my idea of help. But still ... it's just a bit absurd that corpses take priority over live targets.

Any chance you could upload a video demonstrating the problem? Otherwise I am inclined to believe that it is more the user's methods rather than an actual bug.

I've never had that problem with corpses, but in my experience, companions certainly seem to take priority over enemies. :)

Quit killing your enemies so they die standing in front of you.

While I don't play with companions, I don't really have much trouble hitting around allies. Although I'm guessing that was a jest because often times thy sword tends to end up hitting allies accidentally or some such (I imagine). o.o

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Indeed, I'm inclined to think this is not about the game. It sounds like it's more got to do with how you play. For example, I have been standing basically on top of 3 fallen draugr, in an area littered with slain draugr, and I'll be swinging at the boss and I will never hit the fallen enemies. So, if you're copy of Skyrim is favoring the fallen corpses of your enemies then it's only on your machine, because it's not a widely spread problem.

I have an uncanny knack for hitting my companions. I have actually seen my attacks redirected to hit them. I suspect it's because the hit box extends up to the full height of the character even when they are on one knee, which means you can't effectively shoot 'over' them to hit the enemies on the other side. At least, not without leaving a significant margin. I sometimes wish BGS games had the same quality of collision detection as good FPSers.

It might have to do with how I play, however, it doesn't mean that it's something specific to my game. It's essentially a case of - were the corpse not present, a hit would strike on the living target as opposed to the corpse. In any case, I'm not saying that if you're point blank in a Draugr's face doing toe to toe button mashing that it will instead hit a corpse.

I'm confused by the general way Skyrim's attack mechanics work in that they even hit the corpses even if you're not even remotely aiming at them and instead swinging up in the air.

One thing i have noticed...companions do take hits from me... Ill be in front of the enemy and farkas will behind behind him and somehow farkas will take dmg from me...and when dragons attack a town im pounding him with my sword and somehow i manage to strike npcs and take bounty for it and the guards approach me once the dragon is dead. The npcs get lost inside the dragon i dont see them but i see the hp bar of the npc when im hitting the dragon this i know is a bug.

Weapons have more range than what it shown visually and corpses, if I recall correctly, tend to have the height of their hitboxes be higher than what is visually shown.

There's many ways to clear up/move corpses but there really shouldn't be a need. All that happens when you slash a corpse is that a blood effect plays. That's it. It doesn't move or react to getting slashed in any way, shape, or form. It's quite an annoyance when I have to move corpses because of something of such little value.

Since the engine can support one strike hitting multiple opponents, an easy fix would probably be to make corpses not count towards your opponents hit total. This would mean that you can slash a corpse and still proceed to hit a living target with no issue and you wouldn't have to waste time unnecessarily trying to move corpses out of desirable fighting spots in small cramped dungeons.
