First go, made a character, didn't know what I was doing, ended up up a bit odd, to human eyes anyway. She is still my only ever character though, even after the comment " Oh, look, you're playing as Bj?rk." I must just be easy to please, I suppose.

if you are on PC there are a number of mods that improve the textures and compression problems in the vanilla game. You can also increase the shadow map size so that the shadows on your character at creation are not so blocky.

You can use the console command "showracemenu" to change your character at any time if something isn't quite right after you started play.

Another tip... use the console command "setcamerafov 50" while creating your character. This will bring their face right up close and as large as the screen. Then you can set the fov back to whatever you wanted to play on... I use 85 for play.

Yeah, so much. From my Imperial having massively wide set eyes to my Nords massive jaw, it never ends.

How am I supposed to take the game seriously when my hair is bursting through the metal of my helmet?

Because its long and scrunchies are for milk drinkers.

It seems you forgot character creation in Oblivion.
Anyway, characters in Skyrim look much more better & there are lots of another stuff like tattoos for nords (or how they're called). I just compare big Oblivion character's nose (it was like potato in fact) and well made Skyrim's models.
And yeah, use console command as people said. I think starting a new game only because you don't like your character's appearance is very annoying :)
As for me, I was fully satisfied with my character since I created him 11.11.11

Wear a helmet or mask. It helps, trust me.

Or play as a standard character.

Why is it so hard to grasp for so many of you people that this forum is not a PC exclusive forum?

Xbox 360 and PS3 users do not have the ability to enter console commands, so whatever keeps causing you all to assume that I have this option when you have no idea what platform I am playing on, is beyond me!

I'm pretty OCD about my character and have tweaked her looks several times with "showracemenu". But I try to resist the temptation to do it too much, since lighting can make your character look completely different so it can turn into a game of whack-a-mole.

Yeah. The majority of players are likely to be on console formats. Not so much in the long run, but certainly right now.

Oops! Sorry, didn't know you are console user:)
Anyway, Mati. offered you wearing a helmet. This will hide character's face, so you'll have no worries about it's look.

Don't have this problem. I value RP far more than I do looks, and have restarted several characters for being unhappy with their concept / background story. But once I have a really good character, I can happily ignore any 'imperfections' in his looks. Besides, I rarely look at my character's face.

Same. I don't have a problem with my character's appearance as much as I did in Oblivion - now in Skyrim, it's more about the playstyle than anything else.

I'm extreamly OCD about my Character(s) my first one in Skyrim started off as an Argonian, then a Breton and is now a Khajiit.

reason being; ive always played Khajiit throughout the series (the Khajiit started from morrowind) and he has progressed through all the continents seeking out to destroy and svck the souls of all the Werewolves that roam the earth for to him, they are scum this time he may actually take a twist and become that which he hates so dearly...we'll see.

anyway basically my Khajiit which is my main character has to be just right he has to change but not drastically from the past ventures for example, each time he has arrived being on a dirty ship as a prisoner, a prisoner that helps the guards in Cyrodil escape or ends up almost being Beheaded in Skyrim he gets a little dirtier each time and his charactaristics also change i.e. more scars, ruffled hair, longer/shorter mane.

if thats not OCD i dont know what is (for character creation)

i play other ofcourse who i care less about but the Khajiit is my baby. if its not right i will restart and re-make after riverwood but this Khajiit has been awesome (3'rd creation)

showracemenu

didnt this create problems in Morrowind? stats etc? i tend to shy away from that command as ive experenced problems before but then again....that was Morrowind not skyrim or Oblivion.

My first character, a female Breton, I deleted after about 10 levels or so because I couldn't stand to look at her.

My second character is a female Nord. I'm pretty happy with her face but I did end up wishing I had chosen a different hairstyle.

My third character is a Wood Elf, a race specifically chosen to be a thief/assassin. I'm not all that thrilled with her face but I just wear the Nightingale armor and get on with things.

No ridicule here.

I've done this so many times that it's embarrassing. I got particularly hung up on the creases around the mouth of Imperial males and ended up tossing a level 40-something Imperial just because one kill-cam shot showed off those lines in a really bad way while I was wearing a Guild Master Cowl. :sigh:

Then it was the baggy wrinkles under the eyes of every single [censored] Dunmer. Two characters scrapped well into the game because the camera wasn't kind to them.

And Khajiit? Oh god. First you think you want the beaded locks and later you don't and that's roughly at the same time when you realize that the pattern on your fur is garbage, and then there's the tail. Khajiit tails don't look good sticking out of Nightingale Armor.

It will temporarily remove your "active effects" but all you have to do is reload the game from the main menu and equip/unequip your gear to get them all back.

Thankfully I have never had this problem yet, I was happy with my Argonian Thief/Assassin and I'm happy now with my Khajiit Mage. (My avatar, like him?)

*1179 Saves In*

Eyes too close, too high/low, hair colour wrong, wrong nose.. Too long a chin, facial hair? Hmmm.. Too thin, damn it everything but the eye colour!

I feel your pain OP. seriously. The CC has me OCDing like no other. I'm just trying to find some kink or quirk in my characters face that reflects his or hers actions in game. Backstab an innocent? Rotate that camera round and see that Mona Lisa enigmatic smile. Smile isn't there?

Back we go to the start.

I've heard Hadvars "Who.. are you?" way too many times.

Still. I bought the game, it's a good game and I want only the best of a Dragonborn in my game.

I did that, too, for my nord warrior. I ended up with a very good character.

It helps to max the sliders to one side or to place them in the middle.
Or to 3/4 or 1/4. When you place the slider somewhere, keep in mind that there are normally 21 "spots".
So you can place the slider exactly in the middle.

To date I have my Lvl 45 Nord and then 10 seperate characters to try out, with varying skill and weapon types.

J'Vari - Male Khajiit Thief - Dual weilding Swords, Archery as a backup, Light Armour - Concentrating on Sneaking and Pickpocketting.

Fimmion - Male Wood Elf Archer - Focus on pure archery, with a sword as backup, Light Armour

Ogrul gro-Khadba - Male Orc Mercenary - Two handed Weapons, Heavy Armours and Smithing

Olda Wolf-Runner - Female Nord Warrior - Sword and Shield, Bow as backup, light armours - Focus on Blocking Skills and One-Handed.

Karlirah - Female Redguard Warrior - Heavy Armour, Dual Wielding Swords - Focus on Stamina and pure swordsplay.

Cassius Loran - Male Imperial battlemage - Pure magic where possible, Heavy Armour (Though a magical Hood is often used) and Sword or Staff as a backup - Focus on maxing out magic wherever possible, and enchanting.

J'ram-Dar - Male Argonian Thief - Light Armours and Daggers - Focus on Stealth and back-stabbing - A little bit of magic for camouflage.

Ocato - Male High Elf Mage - Pure Magic and Robes only - Bound Swords and Armours if neccessary - Focus on as manmy magioc disciplines as possible.

Ancus Maurard - Male Breton Necromancer - Dagger and enchanted robes - focus on summoning and raising fallen enemies.

Vendrela Helas - Female Dark Elf Spellsword - Enchanted Swords in one hand, Destruction Magic in the other - Light Armours crafted well and Enchanted.

Needless to say I took a hell of a time working on the faces. I posted my Khajiit in the most recent Show Us Your Character thread. High Elves abd Dark Elves are the toughest, because they've been made so Hag-like in Skyrim. But in having less pressure on creating ONE definitive character it makes it easier for me. Also means I can do Questlines seperately, with different characters, rather than, say, forcing a Nord Warrior to do the Mages College quests for the Xbox Live achievement.

LOL - man do I feel you! Mine is more about style: do I want to be a battlemage? Yes.... 30 hours in.... no...... Do I want to be a pure mage - YES! 23 hours in ...... Maybe not........ I have created probably 10 characters since 11/11 and played a total of 200 hours but all spread over different ones..... I want a continuous playthrough but am constantly shifting...... It is driving me INSANE.

I LOVE that you posted this .... I feel your pain!

I had that exact same problem, until I realized that the reason was I didn't create a good enough background story for the characters and didn't grow very attached to them. The guy in my sig solved that problem. I'm even writing a diary, which helps me grow even more attached to him. I could play him for hundreds of hours! :)

I am opening myself up for all sorts of ridicule, here, so go ahead and make fun of me.

I am just hoping to get some support here, because I have owned this game since 11.11.11, and I keep starting over because I am never satisfied with my character.

I always get to Riverwood, and then look at my character from all angles, and realize that I don't like the smallest things, such as eyeliner not being at the proper setting, skin tone on the cheeks, etc.

I am a male Nord, and just wondering if anyone else out there has this addiction?

You only get one chance to create a character that looks perfect. I know that I will be playing this game for 1000 hours, easily over the course of a couple of years, so I just need to get this right, but I can't!!

Dude. This is the second thread you have posted showin how unhealthily you take this game. I really recommend takin a step back and reevaluating your priorities. If have a hard time in the real world Please step out of the fantasy and take care of yourself. If I'm just making assumptions then I apologize. But it honestly seems from your posts that you have an unhealthy look on games.
