Is there a console command that allows for more than 1# foll : V

For some reason whenever I talk to that khajit companion he says I already have a follower

However, I've yet to get a follower on this entire character, this is really bugging me and I'm wondering if there is any console command to allow more followers or convince the game I don't have any.
