Is there a save cap?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:08 pm

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the maximum number of manual saves for FO3 was 1000, is this the case for Skyrim?

No, but as fallout 3 showed us, when you get like 600 saves your game is slow and laggy just like the ps3 issue but that's prob not the issue for skyrim. That is if you aren't on ps3

You actually had save files that were numbered above 1000?

Yeah, they wouldn't put a cap on it that would prevent you saving so your okay.

I take it you mean if you keep all 600 saves? I myself only have 5 saves at any one time (3 auto and 2 manual)

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but do you all mean literally keeping all the saves (as in 1000+ individual save spots)? Or simply saving over a pre-existing saves several thousand times? I save a lot but have only 7 or 8 actual save spots (including the three auto-save spots). Mercy, I hope there's no cap to the number of times I can re-use spots, because if there is, I'm probably real close :(.

I'm on save 330 or so (only level 29, I save a -lot-).
I also save over old ones. I keep about 20 active, and just save over the bottom one each time.

I noticed some skips/freezes while playing last night. Playing on xbox.

On the 360 there is a bug that if your saves trail off screen they disappear. Then some of your saves will reappear if you reduce the number of saves until they all fit on the screen.

I mean the save file number not the number of current saves.

If there is a 1000 saves cap, then it is not saving the game a 1000 times, but making 1000 differents saves :)

I keep only about 15 saves at a time (I manually delete unneeded saves from the saves folder) but the index number of saves is over 3000 right now if that helps.

I had about 300-ish saves before the game decided to start naming the saves 001 again. But the one before that got corrupted (only corrupted one so far).

Also, I would advice against keeping save slots and saving over them. Just make new, fresh saves. It'll save you a lot of issues down the line.

I have no idea why, but I have the faith no more song "we care a lot" in my head, except the lyrics have been changed to "We save a lot".

Strange thought process is strange.

Back on topic, I never oversave my save files. An I have no idea why. I just always hit new save. Hope there isn't a save cap

Yes, that helps quite a bit. Thanks!

Good point. I occasionally make fresh ones (and delete the older ones, so still keeping 7-8 active) but I should probably do that more often than I currently do. Thanks!

I don't know exactly how many saves I have current at one time, but it takes about 15 seconds to scroll down through them all....

The save count is directly related to your system clock. If you are on, say, save #24, and you set your clock back a day, and save again, it will make another save #24, and will keep doing so untill the time has passed the point when the first #24 was created.

Damn. I only had 100 saves (Literally all 100, then i deleted half) in over 80 hours.

When the game first came out it capped me at 150 on PS3 but that might of changed. I deleted most until I only had like 20 left to fix lag but I don't know if the cap was a bug or not?

It's limited by your hard drive space.
