If you do you won't have it anymore.

I don't see much point in the key, I can open any lock quickly enough with regular lockpicks. If anything it decreases the already small amount of joy you get from the lockpicking mini game. Essentially the skeleton key is like having ''god mode'' switched on in an already simple (mini) game.

If you return it than you get:

- Actual Nightengale powers
- Achievement/throphy
- Option to become guild leader if you do enough misc. quests as well

I returned it. The nightingale powers (especially shadowcloak of nocturnal) were worth handing in the key for. Plus, picking locks is quite simple as well when you get it to around level 70, even master locks (not using lockpicking perks as well).

Spoiler
Return it. There's a perk that makes your lockpicks unbreakable, if you so wish it. Personally, I prefer having that chance of a pick break. It adds to the fun. As every one said, once you return it, you get Nightingale powers -- and, if you've done enough quests for Vex and Delvin, you'll be promoted Guild Master and get that neat black variant of the Thieves Guild Armour.

Return it. I've only ever bought 30 lockpicks in my entire playthrough and the rest if have looted from dead enemies. Since level 30 i havent once had under 100 lockpicks available and there isnt a lock i cant pick in 3 picks. There just isnt any need to miss out on the awesome extra stuff you get from the theives guild. From the extra missions alone i have looted thousands and became guild master, now every so often i open up my guildmasters chest and find awesome stuff :)

You can use it for a while. But you should return it eventually. Using it for say 10 level ups should get you enough lockpicks to be fine without it.

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics. General topics about the the game include but are not limited to: races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, perks, character builds, Skyrim specific Lore, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. Location specific details are also spoilers, this includes unique item/NPC locations and puzzles. The Spoilers section is also for exploits with character builds.

I will move this now.
