Thieves guild - wish I could take 'em down

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:25 am

I've haven't yet completed their questline, but I'm fairly confident they don't all decide to become a charity distributing alms to the poor.

I was just doing that early 'pay a visit to some people' bit and was thinking - hang on - you're framing people, extorting people - you get sent to rob people. The dark brotherhood are, to put it mildly, morally questionable - being contract killers and all, but you can wipe them out if you so choose. The thieves guild aren't killers, but they are very morally objectionable and i feel I'm currently engaged in making multiple people miserable by doing their bidding (though it does fit this character).
To the best of my knowledge, this is simply not an option with the thieves guild. I realise there's a reason why they can't be wiped out at least for a while, but I think Bethesda really missed a trick in not being able to finish them. I'd have loved some kind of quest where you gradually undermine them to the point of extinction - like theives guild style quests that are anti-thieves guild - sneaking in to grab evidence, stealing back stolen goods members then accuse each other of taking and this causes internal conflict - stuff like that.
Ah well - too late now I guess. but please Bethesda - next time round maybe consider some of us might want to play Batman and bring the criminals to justice.

Yeah, like a radiant quest from the shopkeepers guild.
"Kill bandits in Ratway."

Killed.

"Return to Brand-Shei."

Quest over.

I just started the TG questline for the first time, but I do think it would have been nice to have an alternate "Destroy the TG" questline for good characters.

Indeed, especially after you join up with Mjoll, it feels like it was a questline that simply wasn't finished.
