things in skyrim that break your emmersion?

Post » Wed Jun 27, 2012 4:06 am

just want to see what ticks people off while playing skyrim!

it can range from little things to big things that break the immersion.

RULES
-no bugs/glitches

i just want to see what breaks your "feel" when playing.

i'll start: not to criticize or single out people but american accents in the game are kind of a turn off for me since its a more "recent" accent so to say? when the game itself is featuring in olden days. my general opinion on this would apply by hearing more different variations of "nordic guard" accents and only few british accents for imperials. other than that, the game is fantastic!

on a side note- i apologize and i hope you lot will apologize if these are things that you haven't noticed but now have and now are turned off in some points (future reference)

GO! :D

The fact that I hear the same NPC lines all the time -- from different voice actors.

At some point, some developer decided that different voice actors -- each of whom can be instructed to say virtually anything -- should be given the exact same lines, even though they could just as easily have said different things...This man is a fool. A FOOL, I SAY!

I remember detonating a certain bomb in a certain town in Fallout 3 that had inhabitants that were children. I can only assume, if this is true, that the explosions made them disappear rather than kill them.

Essential NPCs who aren't apart of the main quest. Why can't I kill Erikur, that snotty blond guy in Solitude who sits in the Blue Palace? >_>

-Killcams.

-Non kill-able NPC's:
(For example Guild leaders and Jarls.)

-Invincible children.
(If they are going to be in the game I should be able to kill them.)

-Bounty system:
(I shouldn't get a bounty when I kill someone in the middle of butt [censored] nowhere. And I shouldn't get one when I fire an arrow at someone and nobody saw me do it.)

-Stolen item system.
(A shopkeeper shouldn't be able to tell the difference between an item I found/earned/bought and an item I stole. I should be able too sell the item to the shopkeeper without having to join the Thieves Guild, or getting that pointless perk.

-Level Scaling system.
(I should be able to find/buy all weapons and and armor at any level. A sword I find at level 1 should do the same damage as if I got it at the level cap. I also should be able too fight the strongest enemies in the game at level 1.)

-The Guards dialog:
(I hate it when they say things like. I'm the leader of the Companions then they say I'm the newest member.)

-Guilds:
(I hate how I can join a guild and be the lowest ranked member there and something happens where I become the leader of it. For example: The College of Winterhold. Even though my character is the lowest member and the weakest mage there. I ended up becoming the Archmage of it. Even though there are people there who are higher up, been there longer than me and are a better magic user than what I am.)

It's because it's a touchy subject at best. No laws or anything.

But I just find the usual pop-in, glitch or crash that really pulls me out of the moment.

I guess it's possible. Latest (remote) example is Max Payne 3, the cutscenes are actually the ''load screens''. Sure it's not gameplay itself, but in a way there isn't loading screen. Who knows what the next gen brings us.

Magic is too common among NPCs - every second enemy throwing lightnings on your skin just doesn't feel right. Magicans are the ones who are breaking my immersion.

Which ones?
invincible children-obvious reasons

stolen item system- whenever i was a low level i could never manage to find out where to sell these stolen goods which frustrated me until i came across the theives guild but i've had characters that are not supposed to join the guild and yet i have to get by on working at the saw mill lol!

guilds- i found it relatively easy too to reach the highest pinnacle of the guilds (especially the companions) i wanted a SHED load more quests to earn this long road to becoming a guild master. this also brings up a stupid thing with both the stormcloaks adn the empire, its WAY too easy to get to the end of it! its a civil war! not a bloody walk in the park regardless of being dragonborne!

i expected a couple of quests that had to involve skirmish battles across the tundras to the warm lands of the rift where you actually led soldiers into battle. i wanted to have at least an imperial follower after becoming a higher ranking imperial. i wanted to be reffered as "sir" too. i wanted more armour variations for both sides i.e. imperial chainmail armour (medium) different imperial swords and most of all....WOLF HIDE CAPES, running around in a leather skirt in the icy wastelands of skyrim is a turn off for me, i wanted more skin covered up and some nice big wolf fur cape for high ranking legionares

That reminds me that most of the npc's doesn't react to your current status. ''Fetch me some beer, will you boy ?''. Umm...yeah sure I'm the harbringer of your little guild (highest rank), but ok I get you some beer no problem.

Same here. For example: I hate how every Bandit group I come across has a magic user in it. Some have more than one. I wouldn't mind if they do stuff like healing spells, but it gets annoying when they do stuff like what you said. 1 in 5 Bandit groups should have a battle like mage in it.

This. Sweet baby Jesus this. This is always what I think when I hear "Some may call them junk, but me I call them treasures" Voiced by ten different [censored] people.

The other thing that killed my day was when I joined the Dark Brotherhood on my 3rd character. This is my first time playing as a Vampire my other 2 characters are Werewolfs. So I was expecting to have special dialog with that little Vampire girl about me being a Vampire. When I asked her to tell me about herself, but there isn't it's just the normal dialog. I was also expecting to have special dialog about the same topic with Astrid's husband. I was expecting him to say some thing about Vampires and Werewolfs.

re: magic.

Hmm. I've always seen TES as a high-magic world.... a place where many people might have at least a little access to magic, either potions or enchanted items or little "cantrip" level spells.

That isn't the only thing wrong with Babette. Another one is that she is essential - what's the point to make her to be a vampire if you can't kill her?
