Things in Skyrim you see but cannot use. Rugs, fishing poles

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:58 pm

I'm wondering if anyone has seen items in Skyrim that just don't look like they belong and/or have no use.

For me it's fishing poles. Why can't we use them?

The biggest one is rugs. They are rolled up all over Skyrim but you can't do a thing with them. Was there a se for them that didn't make it into the game? Kinds like those 15lb wood chipper things in fallout 3 that were supposed to be used for the rocket launcher but never made it into the schematics. Since I'm new to elder scrolls maybe it's some kind of inside joke.

Also I'm wondering if the taffy is some sort of reference to something?

They are static items. They are in every TES game. Meant to make the world look real and lived in at a glance.

hmm but the rugs seen really out there. Especially when I see them in old dungeons just rolled up in a puddle of water and blood.

They are considered clutter they are in all Elder Scrolls games. I find it fun to collect the junk that best suits my character and I find a use for it in decorating my houses. I would do that if only they fixed the exploding item bug.

Well, I can't say I've ever seen a rug in a dungeon in a puddle of blood and water. :P

Where's your imagination?

It was rolled up by someone that either brought it in because the floor is too cold or was getting ready to take it home as booty.

The blood and water suggests that neither way succeeded.

There should have been more clutter items, honestly. Like in Oblivion they had linen bolts which were actual items. Now we just have disgusting looking 'linen wraps'.

And along the same lines... I would like to see tons more, useless to the player but essential to the NPC, clutter.
Immersion is the name of the game. Look around your own home and see how much useless stuff you have... but by it being there it makes it more 'homely'.

For me it's too many weapons and armor lying around that seems silly.

You should be able to put stuff on your horse. Or at least see your guy eat or drink or something.

I hate to admit it but the first couple of days I carried around cooking pots around with me and a shovel in case I had to dig up some treasure.

I, for one, miss calipers and tongs. The most useless things in Oblivion that you always accidentally picked up while looting.

Also be able to play the instruments. Not like a full scale thing, but just do a short tune like sven does when he's your follower. The bard's college is useless.

:( This reminds me playing my first time in Fallout 3, First time playing in the Fallout universe, I seen the motorbikes and was saddened when you couldnt repair them and use much later in the game... :( plus the environment really pulled me in, I thought that megaton had a real struggle with radroaches and stuff coming up through the toilets etc, It was disappointing as I was thinking that wouldnt it be cool if during the story line the radroaches and other insects made a swarm on megaton, coming up through the toilets and trying to take over megaton at a point, you could had a choice, let them swarm and all people turn into zombies that eventually go wild and the city infested with roaches and bloatflies everywhere, or try to prevent them and most of them infected and turned zombie but wont eventually attack you by going wild :(

It would be nice to to use the shovel. This way I can give some of my enemies a proper burial.
Or dig a hole and bury the enemies with head sticking out... then use dead thrall .
Or dig a hole, then hide the hole (booby trap).
Or dig a hole to blow off some steam.

I don't think the burial part is that hard, just chuck the body into the nearest water source.

I'm not talking about the linen wraps these things look like rolled rugs. Mostly I see them on wagons or in lived in in houses of merchants. It's like a rug a merchant has that they put under them and sit and have there items displayed out in front of them. They even have a rug design on them that you can see if you look close enough. Also everytime I do a quest where someone asks to find 'the missing traveler' I sometimes find them with a wagon full of books, supplies and those rug things.

Go to one of the shops at Solitude. I think bits and pieces and you will see two rolled up rugs right when you walk in on the left. Those are rugs not linens.

Skyrim has tongs. I have a pair in my safe that I found while in a dungeon or something.
