I think Bethesda wanted to get in as many features as possib

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:18 am

...then expand on those with DLC. They knew they weren't going to be able to flesh each feature out.

A quote from Todd Howard
"[it will be focused on] ways to make the game better, not just have more, because the game is so big. So we're going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways that we can improve it."

Counting on entirely new game mechanics with a DLC most likely will not go well..

I wouldn't be surprised if spell combinations (fire+frost=steam etc) are included via a DLC/expansion though. Todd stated they liked the idea.

Pretty much.

It's the very opposite if anything, Skyrim literally has less features. Graphically looks better, dragons, melee finishers from Fall Out that's about the only difference.

liking and doing is two separate things, I no longer trust Todd or anyone at BGS of promised features. Due to Skyrim and previous game experiences of such. One of which that is fairly large and was often brought up was the ability to sabatage economies of seperate holds that feature was promised/spoke about by todd himself in a video and not in game.

I think you is seeing too much into that quote. Is not like he would give a hidden hint of his agenda of cutting content to sell it as a DLC in a random interview.

It seems like Bethesda was just focusing on making good graphics instead of actual game content like quests. It also seems like they rushed the game so it would be released on 11/11/11.

The game already has a ton of quests and TONS of dungeon. The problem is that they put out too much and didn't make the content that existed connect together in any meaningful way.

There's some overlap between the main quest and Civil War quests, but otherwise most of the chains feel entirely isolated. Oh you saved the world and ended the war? Go fetch me some mead and keep your hands to yourself sneak thief >.< .

I'd be more annoyed if old mechanics were introduced with DLC. Reminds me of a scoffed at prediction that games would start inflating their price by releasing a less-than-stellar product compared to previous releases and tack on those features in a DLC.

P.S. Was anybody else expecting one of those "before they took an arrow in the knee" comments from the OP?

Think of Skyrim as a wide ocean, one foot deep. Lots there, but it's still pretty shallow. I wouldn't be surprised to see them dig a bit deeper and get more into the features present as the OP suggests.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

The Bard's College is a good example. They should let you actually play instruments. I'm hoping this is the direction they are taking DLC.

There is a lot of content to this game but there is an overall lack of depth. Also features were never added like sabotaging the towns economy. Also things in the game do not seem very well fleshed such as the magic system.

I hope issues with the depth of the game are included in an expansion, its just a shame we have to wait for a complete in depth experience. So we have to wait for more added depth with an expansion and we have to wait months for this game to be patched to rid it of all of its bugs. This game needed a few more months of development.

we all know Bethesda poured their hearts into Skyrim,we all know its fun to play, every game has flaws, and if you really cant overlook some of the bugs and glitches..then sell the game and get something more suited to your fancy

Another person who appears to have bought the game for the economy portion of it? hmmm....there's quite few of you
I honestly don't get what any of you were expecting of that, they themselves said it would be a "light touch" and the fact that they said nothing about it at all until release makes it seem strange that so many of you were basing your purchase off of that one feature.
It seems to me as though you're simply finding some detail they didn't include for the sake of bashing them.

Did I base it off that one feature? There are other examples hell Skyrim could have turned out like Oblivion and when "radiant AI" was promised may not be present at all like in Oblivion.

I bought Skyrim for mods that's it if mods were not confirmed I wouldn't have bought the game mods alone are worth $60. Same reason I still havn't bought BF3 although I noticed its discounted at the moment and is pretty tempting..

They also claimed they'd have quest givers following you to dungeons, etc, (which had a mayor impact on whether I should buy), and a light touch, is certainly different than nothing... and the fact that they remove the feature yet keep mentioning in straight up to release is [CENSORED]... and I was looking forward to that "light touch" myself, and I'm angry at it's silent removal as well.
It seems to me you're calling a lie a "little detail they didn't include" for the sake of bashing some members with valid points...

And yes, regardless of how small a feature a dev lies about then it is still outrageous that they lie about thier products.

This is in on several occasions.

Most of this threads are about: I want to have more of this or that. Take a bit of time and look deeper in the game. There are a ton of unmarked quests and features which blend in nicely. Only one example the magician college: The main quest for it isn't that large and you became arch mage to early if you simply play it through with simple quest marker following.

But if you take your time and look at the little things that are in the college and the surroundings you have a lot of days playtime and get a lot more detailed experience.

Simply don't stick on this questmarker thingy and explore, read books, diaries and listen to the conversations of the NPCs if you want the full experience.

Btw. I don't comment on the mechanics.

I've only seen this in Bleaks Falls Burrow... :(

BTW: I like your post far better than the guy quoted, and trust me I most certainly don't follow a marker or rush through the game, I'd be playin' without hud if I didn't consider it broken (only gotten directions in Bleaks Falls Burrow), in fact my most enjoyable part of the game was walking from riverwood to riften on a lvl one thief, climbing, swimming, running, and screenshot taking to get there.

I think even the lack of depth has varying degrees. Dwemer ruins strike me as being a huge sucess both in terms of extent and depth.
But take the College of WInterhold.
Everything about it is shallow.
The quest is but a breeze.
The characters carboardish.
Even the architecture is plain. Uninteresting, generic, oblivion-esque.

Keep the Dwemer ruins' designer. Sack everyone else. :D
No. Make them attend an intensive refresh course.
