Think I may have developed a work-around re: save games

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:50 am

Someone posted something earlier today about global flags being set in the saved games as an anti-cheating measure. (Come forward, you!) That kinda goes along with what I said last night about some sort of flag being set in the saves but then the image doesn't recognize it.

Started thinking about that... In order to compare flags, those saves would have to be in the same place at the same time on a given storage device(s). How to keep them seperate?

Easy.

Two memory cards and your XBOX HDD. Note: You are going to have to run with just two saved games to make this work and blow your other saves out of the water.

1. Move a good save to a memory card (just one!), using the xbox system settings tab. Delete all of your other saves if they are doing the "dlc not found" deal.
2. Copy that save to the HDD. Confirm you have only one save game copy on the HDD.
3. Remove the memory card.
4. Play game
5. When you want to save, plug in the other memory card, and save to it.
6. When you want to use that saved game, go to system settings and delete the original save on the HDD and the first memory card.
7. Plug in the 2nd memory card, move the file in system settings, and continue playing.
8. Next save, save it to the first memory card
9. Rinse and repeat

This way, the game save files are never together in the same place at the same time. Follow me? The game will ever only see one saved game at any given time.

I have tested through 3 save/load cycles and no trouble so far.

Anyone care to give it a try and confirm?

(I know like it sounds like a lot of shuffling, and it it, but it seems to work...)

At least until they can get things ironed out.

P.S. Make sure auto save is completely disabled. If it is enabled, then it's saving another game in close proximity to another, which explains how folks running with only one manual save are getting corrupted as well...

I'd rather not play than be constantly plugging in and removing memory cards, plus I have never used memory cards and don't own any. I hope it works for you though.

Fair enough.

I'm pretty sure the 360 will let you use USB drives as storage media now, for that matter. Don't know if it wipes the drive or not, though. I haven't tried it, all my USB devices are PC dedicated.

Just another thought.

Just make absolutely sure you know what you are getting into with this! You may lose all your NV save data.

I'm gambling on it, and am willing to accept the consequences...make sure you are too.

No video.

Basic idea is to keep save games completely seperate from each other and make sure the game only sees ONE saved game at any time.
