Think I skipped ahead on the Main Quest....

I think there's a glitch that lets players skip ahead a bunch; I remember having to go to Primm to go to the Courier Station, but when I got there the convicts had taken over, so I decided to put a hold on the main quest and go do other things. After a while, I talked with some people (can't remember who unfortunately) who told me all about this Benny guy (hadn't heard the name before), and before I knew it, the Primm quest was gone and replaced by a quest to go after Benny. I thought something was weird about that, like I just missed a whole section of the story. When I finally went back to Primm I got a whole story about the couriers and where I need to go next....

I just wanted to point that out to the devs that you should not be able to even accidentally skip ahead like that, I have no idea how much I would have missed if I didn't remember that I needed to go to Primm for the Main Quest.

Sequence breaking is not always a bug. This would be one of the times where it's not. Skipping ahead makes perfect sense.

It is when it makes a 10-hour main quest only 7 hours. I don't mind missing side quests, because honestly, no matter how many times you play you're going to miss some; but the main quest is the meat of the game, why would they allow you to cut into a game that's already incredibly short?

Because padding isn't a justification for railroading in a sandbox.

If you skip Primm and go to Novac, why wouldn't Manny tell you about Benny? By magically detecting that you shouldn't be there yet? It would be silly to impose such an artificial limit on you. The path via Primm etc. is there just to guide you to Benny, but it's not a mandatory part of the main quest.

Well, like I said, unfortunately I don't remember the specifics of what happened or who I talked to that made the Primm quest disappear, so I can't really say whether, in this case, skipping ahead makes sense or not. From what I recall, I talked to certain people and was surprised to see certain quest-related dialog lines to choose from, surprised because I was not told to talk to these people (yet) and thus I should not know who they are and what information they have, nor should they know I'm looking for information that even I'M not aware I need yet. That's when it breaks immersion. I'm not ranting about it, mind you, I'm just helpfully pointing it out to others who have had this happen, and to the devs that they might want to look into it.

The only thing you ask is "have you seen this guy." Whether or not you know he's been to those specific locales, it still makes sense to ask people who are along the only road between you and his obvious destination.

Yup, you only ask if they've seen a guy in a checkered suit, whether it's in Primm or Novac. The people who have seen him simply guide you to where he went next, but it's still pretty natural to ask about him elsewhere if you skip some locations.

There is nothing wrong with breaking sequence. You could do it in Fallout 3, 2, and 1. Hell, im no master detective, but if some guy in a nice suit shot me, and the ONLY place where he could be is New Vegas, I would go straight there, pop him in the head, and the game wouldn't give a flying flip, because its perfectly logical.

Look at the bright side. Since you know you missed something, you have a reason to play the game again.

Alright, I'm convinced it's not a glitch. I guess it would make sense, given the arguments here. I'm sold!

In FO3 I just went for a wander before going to Megaton. I eventually discovered a strange vault tucked under a garage in the middle of nowhere, got into one of the pods and a few dialogue options later had found my father and was racing off towards Rivet City. So yeah - skipping out a chunk of main quest is entirely possible.

Its not a bug i dont think but i think its not a good thing to allow, atleast to do so in such an easy fashion like he did. That would svck id think to just miss some quests out of nowhere and then u may not even know it.

Bug, no, but def a must fix for dev's
