Ok...I think I am in trouble

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 7:47 am

I never got the chip back from Mr. House(didnt realize I needed it in the first place anyways at the fort) so I traveled to the bunker and saved a bunch of times then so I have no saves that can get me back.

So I decided to KILL the house. So ceaser and the House are dead. Yes Man is alive(he never dies) but he wants me to go to the bunker too! I have NO chip.

So how do I progress this damn storyline? I am 40 hours in and now I am stuck...this is pathetic!

The only quest I have left that would make sense is "Dont tread on the bear".

Can this save me so I can complete the main quest?

I check my inventory and I do not have the chip. I went back to the fort and it says for me to leave it alone.

Yikes.

If your on PC you might be able to spawn a new chip through console commands, don't know and it might [censored] up your file somehow, don't know

I have the 360 version.

Damn...this is pretty damn insane. I am 43 hours into this game.

If ANYONE can help me I would really appreciate it.

"Don't tread on the bear" isn't a real quest - it's just a warning from the NCR to stop working with Yes Man/House/Legion if you want to stay on good terms with them. As such, you can't actually complete the quest, you can only possibly fail it by continuing to snub the NCR.

As for your predicament, the first thing I'd try (maybe you've tried this already, apologies if you have), is to go to the bunker anyway and try interacting with the terminal. A couple times on past playthroughs it let me progress even when wasn't sure if I had the chip with me or not.

If this doesn't work, then you could always try helping the NCR instead of Yes Man - if "Don't tread on the bear" is still active (i.e. not yet failed), it should mean that the NCR is still willing to deal with you and accept your help.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1169003-the-house-always-wins-ii-help/

My post there has the quote in it from the Vault about the bug. Looks like you may have encountered it, like I said there, to my knowledge there's no out of it I'm afraid, with CL dead, House dead and Yes Man impossible to finish (I think) the only option is the NCR.

Don't tread on the bear, as said above, is a notification quest, basically it's to tell you that if you carried on serving House/Yes Man/Cl they'd get pissy and stop talking to you.

Since it's still active, it is not failed and the NCR questline is still available. Go talk to Ambassador Crocker in the Strip (he's at the very end of it, in the NCR embassy to the left), you should have a quest about meeting him? (If you already have then obviously you're ok).

Do his quests, then he'll send you to another NCR base/officer who'll assign you more main story quests. If I remember correctly you do not need the chip for the NCR's quests. I think...

Wow ok...this could be my way out then. I will focuse on the NCR aspect of this and hope I do not need a chip in anyway to finish this game off.

I mean I love this game and for this to happen is pretty devastating. I started this game back in Oct and just dont have much time to play games. I have been off and on with this so hopefully I can complete this.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will be back if the above suggestion doesnt work.

Just flicked through the NCR quests and it seems to be the same as I remember, no need for the chip at all.

So, here's to hoping it works for you! I know what it's like to have minimal time to play a game.
All I can say is that seems to be the most game breaking glitch I've heard of, it is at least preventable once you know about it though, so if you get the time to play through in the future you can do so...still, glad it's salvageable at least, good luck!
