Seriously, though... I was annoyed with Steam back when it was only used for Valve games, but since then, it has become like a separate OS just for games, and I find it to be very convenient.

If you only use it for one game, I can see where it might be annoying, but if you ever use it to its full potential, I can't see how you can do anything but love it.

Everyone's talking about Steam because that's what you asked about and since I'm new to the PC version (have PS3 too) and Steam and NewVegasNexus, I'll just talk about what a blast I'm having with the game + one mod. I posted in the Mod area asking for help to learn to mod and I got the help and it wasn't hard for what I wanted to add. I now have the Unlimited Companions mod from NewVegasNexus and am traveling with ED-E, Boone, Veronica and Arcade. It's a riot and really changes the game up. I'm now at Level 15 and we've cleared out Quarry Junction and Primm Pass with more to come. I got the DVD version of FNV on Black Friday on Amazon. I like having the hard copy no matter what it is. It just feels safer. So good luck.

Personally, I prefer to buy all games on Steam if they are available. All the patching is done automatically for you and if you ever switch computers or replace your hard drive, it's much easier to restore all your games than looking around for old CDs, etc. Also there are chatrooms for most games that you can log into while you're playing if you need some help.

In fact I've considered a few games that I decided not to buy because they weren't available on Steam.

So much Steam hate. Ha! You don't see that on the Steam forums probably because Valve moderators remove the posts!

As mentioned in the thread, Steam is used for DRM even if you buy a physical copy, the save issue has been sorted out, and in some parts of the world without broadband updating even 20mb will take forever and is absurd.

I like steam for many reasons, it's like itunes for games and Valve is always running excellent deals especially this time of year. Why pirate a game and get a risky copy when you can buy it for $4? You can log in remotely and download your purchases, if the game supports it you can do the game on a Mac if you own the PC version (and vicev ersa). Free online play for the most part. It's pretty neat I think

The downside is everything is linked to a single account and if it gets hacked then your purchases could be as good as gone. As mentioned, not every country is the USA (and not every state in the USA has broadband either) so for some people they won't be able to play the game they bought unless they spend a month updating it which is redic. They shove ads down your throat. Some people claim that it causes their games to crash (whatever, it takes up so little ram and computers ship with so much these days it is a non-issue). The biggest thing for me is that you cannot sell your game used. GFWL games allow you to revoke the license on uninstall and you can re-sell them (or reactivate them if already installed, you might have to wait a year if you used your activations or call MS). I did not know this and bought a used copy of a steam game. Unable to play it, I modified my Amazon receipt to make it out to be the new version and sent this along with a photo of the serial number and disc and my username in sharpie to Valve who added it to my account. I had to 'cheat' to get around it though, wouldn't expect that to happen all the time!

You dont have to be online to use steam..yo select offline mod and every game works fine,.
