Thinking about buying NV / Issues w/ codecs?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:30 am

I enjoyed F3 immensely, until it stop'd working on my system entirely (i have more then enough updated hardware to run it, but from what i understand it has something to do with my audio/video codecs i use for watching anime, and no fix i tried / read about worked). I had already gone thru the origional game and all the DLC content once, so i wasnt going to trade watching anime on the only PC i have to try and reply it.

Before i buy NV, i was wondering if anybody knew if it has/had the same issues with codec's that F3 had?

And just incase anybody who could respond wants to know about my hardware :

Vista 64
8 gigs mem
nVidia Geforce GTX 260 Vid card (running latest drivers)
SB X-fi XtremeGamer Fata. Pro sound card (running latest drivers)

Codec pack im running for my anime needs : CCCP, most recent version (10-10)

Thanks to anybody who can give some advice / info

Few things.

1st, this doesn't belong here.

2nd, 64-bit....don't install your game under program files.

3rd, only 3.2GB memory can be use by the game.

4th, make a dual boot without the CCCP, it would certainly make the game crash at some point.

I have Win7 x64, 4gig and the same X-fi card Runs as good as it can. Had more issues lately due to some Microsoft update. Have to run the Launcher as an administrator. (this is well documented and anoying)

With the amount of memory you have you would benefit from the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39964. It also alows you to avoid the launcher. (however the launcher is needed to make INI file changes effectively, as it overwrites the ones people tell you to change using the "defaults file" in from the game dir) It also is the only way I can get NVSE to work after monthly Patch day in January from Microsoft.

Yes it has Codec issues. No they are not the same ones. It's best to use the stock Direct Filters. (Codec) You can always give it a try but some random Codec issues will cause crashes even with the sound seems fine. for example in the distance a particular attack sound is called for and it's so quiet and far away you wouldn't notice. but for some reason that sound file doesn't like your coded, CTD. and you dont even know why.

A Good util to reset is http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35868. It's backup and restore functions can be used as a make shift toggle on CCCP.

#1 What doesn't? This is a free support forum what is wrong with Pre-Purchase support?

#2 If your alluding to the "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files(x86)" Your right. 32 bit programs go in the x86 one. However the x86 one is the default for STEAM and the permissions on STEAM game folders are such that no Virtual Store or UAC issues exist.

#3. 32 bit programs that are not large address aware like NV only use 2GB. The 3gb file I listed above makes it use 3.2 on a 32bit system and up to 7gb on his rig.

#4 That is a lot of work, assuming he knows how. It may be easier to just use the file I liked above. It's not like he will watch Anime and play the game at the same time. Worse case he has to reinstall CCCP after a gaming session to get his Anime fix
