Is third person so much improved that I can complete the gam

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2011 3:58 am

As the topic title says.

I know most of you, if not all, prefer to play the game in first person but I just prefer third person.
So do you think its improved that much that the game can be played that way all the time, hence complete it that way?

Maybe you guys don't know either but I'm asking anyway cause I might have missed a couple of interviews/previews.

Thx in advance for your response.

Yes it has. Crosshairs have been fixed, the walking animating has been improved and it is more over the shoulde rnow as you can see in a bunch of previews.

Thx, was just wondering.

I know a couple of previews have mentioned improved third person view but not the details of how much it has been improved to really play the game that way all the time.

I love TPS in FO3, It looked so PRO. and it was the only way to get the PC to look like he was aiming.

Is there some actual gameplay with the improved third person view?

I've only just started using third person and it's not as bad as it first seems. I just hope they centred the crosshair a bit more cos picking stuff up in third is a [censored].

I played Fallout 3 entirely in 3rd person

I hate 1st person perspective, it ruins immersion and makes everything disorienting

Right, because everyone knows that in real life your eyes are floating in the air 3 feet above and 5 feet behind you so you can see exactly what you look like doing everything you do.

Oh yeah man, you have to see yourself to believe it! It seems like this is where rpg players and fps players collide and where a much smaller group of those of us (who play both) couldn't care less.

This is where I fall in, I prefer third person roaming, and first person combat, it makes the combat interface easier IMO, and wandering in third person with the ambient game tracks on almost feels moviesque.

I don't really care either way. I play FO 3 in first because third is so clunky but I've played many games in third that work just fine, if the camera angles and targeting work properly.

I just thought it was silly how "first person breaks immersion." How seeing things as if you were really there looking through your own eyes "breaks immersion," I'll never know.

I stopped using third person in Fallout 3 when my own character would line up perfectly and make the raider I was shooting at disappear because my character model eclipsed him. I got killed and put like twenty rounds into a near by wall. I was bewildered to say the least.

Plus regardless of third person improvements, I think FPS is a great way to play rpg's. Wandering the wastes in third person and checking out the look of your armor is fine. Trying to shoot dudes? I screw up royally trying to hit anybody in that mode in Fallout. Since Fallout 3 has shooter elements it feels the best way. Third person shooters only feel "right" to me when it's explicitly made that way and not just another view mode.

For me it doesn't break immersion, I just prefer to play in third.

My favorite game of all time is Mafia and its played in third, didn't bother me one bit and it didn't take me away from the immersion of the game.
I was in there completely.

Another example is the Kotor or the Mass Effect series, where it doesn't bother me either to play in third.

To each his own of course :)

So guys, is there a gameplay trailer out there of the third person view and maybe with some more explanation about it of on how much it has been improved?

Thank you.

The thing is though, Kotor and Mass Effect are made with third person solely in mind. I'm not saying you are wrong for your choice I just feel third person in Fallout 3 was just an afterthought. Or perhaps I just don't like how Bethesda does it since I didn't like the third person camera in Oblivion either.

As for gameplay I honestly haven't seen much gameplay for third person. There was one bit of a guy running around in where I think you have to fight those convicts and he had a new animation for running while holding a gun. Another one was still fighting convicts but was actually firing and it look like it took many shots, more then needed to down him. I'd say check videos about....4 months back? I think third person play might be scattered in those oldier videos.

agree with your methods, that's how I played FO3 too. And I agree with your reasons. Only exception is tunnels, they are almost impossible to play in 3rd, and I like turning a corner and something jumping out at me (in 1st person)

Do you think third person is still neglected even if it has been promised to be improved?

Ok, I'll check up on those older videos.

That's the thing, I'll have to wait until New Vegas comes out before I'm able to know. I've heard about it being improved and at the very least the animation looks a lot better but I've barely seen any third person gunplay to really even form anything resembling an opinion. If it's improved that's great, I might play third person for a while. I just felt 3rd person in FO3 was neglected in New Vegas I can't say. Or it could simply be I can't get my head around that style of play in an rpg such as this. Preferences and all that. If third person in New Vegas is a lot better in New Vegas and I still give fuss than that's simply me being stubborn or just not preferring it. If that happens just say "hey man, cut it out." I'll go alright and I'll stop being a stick in the mud. :P

Thx mate, I guess you're right, its hard to tell before the game has been released and there's isn't all that much info about it.
Been looking in the meanwhile myself and not all that much has been mentioned about third person view.
At least according to what I could find.

Looking through your eyes, and seeing what you would see out there in 1st person, is more immersive than 3rd person , i don't know what your talking about .
And i'm a old school rpg guy.

Like I said, to each his own.
I prefer third person over anything else to get me immersed.

I know most of you prefer to play it in first person but I think they should keep enough in mind that not all of us like that.
Hence why they probably improved third person and we can only hope enough to play it that way entirely.

3rd person accuracy annoyed the hell out of me. I shot someone but it didn't hit.

There was a video where a guy was shooting dead center at close range in third person and wasn't doing any damage, then he switched to 1st person and in one hit it knocked down a couple bars, then one shot in vats finished it off. Looked clearly like it wasn't working right. Also the animation for 3rd person still looks like crap. Will still play in 3rd person, but dissapointed.
