I've never understood that, how people people not feel like idiots saying "The rating should be X but I haven't played the game"?

Drunk or sober at least he has played the game and unlike yourself he is entitled to have an opinion about it.

Who cares if [_____insert person/company here______] gives it a score you wouldn't? When it comes right down to it, [_____insert person/company here______] is just 1 person's opinion of the game. All that matters is YOUR score.

I've played PLENTY of games I loved that got low scores. Gaming Portal sites are good for news and reviews. They should leave scoring to the viewer.

4/5 is fair. Mainly because it doesnt bring a tremendous amount of new features, or breaks the mold of FO

Actually, everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether they play it or not (it may not hold as much weight with you since they didn't)

But I don't have to have an icepick slammed under my toenail to have an opinion that I wouldn't like the experience.

I think the very top of the score chart does need to be reserved for games that define, or redefine a genre. Super Mario 64, Half Life, etc. As one review site puts it "games everyone should play" No matter how great New Vegas is, I can't see it meeting that qualification as it is just "More" - not that there's anything wrong with more, but more isnt something new.

People have opinions. Doesn't matter unless you only PICK games by what people say. Unless like 20 people said it svcked.

Trust me G4 is run by a bunch of monkeys and getting a decent score on a game is difficult at the best of times. I wouldn't take too much stock in their ratings and would rely on more gamer friendly sites like gamefaq where players rate the games as well as write the reviews. Not some intern paid 7.50 an hour to site there and play the thing till their eyes bleed then write the review barely able to see what they are writing. X-Play went down hill after the 3rd year after they were absorbed into the conglomerate of G4TV.

What I don't agree with is that the reviewer here hasn't done any research:

As the saying goes, war never changes, and if the newest entry in the post-apocalypic series is any example, neither does Fallout.

The guy needs to Learn to Google. Fallout has changed plenty in its life.

I don't think bringing new features is necessary. GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas are all (almost) exactly the same game and they all have Metascores of 95% or above.

Also, I have zero respect for the G4 people anyway. Adam Sessler is nothing but a loud-mouthed frat boy, IMO.

Everyone can have their opinion but the OPs is hardly valid in this instance. He hasnt even played FNV and hes giving it a 5/5 rating while saying someone who has played the game and given it a 4/5 is wrong.

How can someone rate something they havnt even experienced or even go on to criticise the opinions of others who have?

I agree; but at first, people flat out told him "You can't have an opinion because you never played it."

I'm just saying "Yeah he CAN have an opinion of it, but it just won't hold much weight/validity with people because you haven't personally sampled it."

Like someone telling you a restaurant is really bad; you can choose to believe it, or you can go there and possibly find out that you had a great experience. People give you more credence when you've experienced something and then have an opinion vs. when you don't experience it.

They are entitled to their opinion. I go back and forth with even reading what G4 says. This is supremely hypocritical of me, but I think scoring a video game out of 5 is stupid. It should be out of 10 and including tenths of a point as well. It's hypocritical of me, because I don't care if anything else is graded out of 5. Not enough spread, it's either lame, passable, good or stellar.

I've never played it yet so my opinion remains to be seen

that being said, I HATE X-Play, I haven't seen their reviews in the last year or so, but there was a time when I watched them religiously, when I did I gradually began to figure out that they are ridiculously biased, slanted and down-right lazy sometimes.

Perhaps they've changed since then, but from what I remember of them I don't take their reviews seriously, same goes for Gamespot and IGN.

Gametrailers and Game Revolution are the only reviews I really trust

5/5 for gameplay, but the game doesnt deserve 5/5 as a whole, because as is common for Obsidian it is plagued by bugs and glitches and other problems that detract from the experience. I am largely enjoying the experience so far, and it is leaps and bounds better than FO3 in story and gameplay, but right now it is a buggy mess and should be called on being such until a patch is released.

Sad to say, but I agree.

Technical issues, be they plentiful and minor, or few but major, is the equivalent of spelling/grammatical errors on a professional website. They instantly drop the game's appeal and can be frustrating to deal with.
